The whole purpose ot gym classes is to create better health and a better attitude ot physical exercise. Classes in badminton, tennis, volleyball, softball, mod- ern dance, basketball, swimming, speedball, hockey, and drill team were available. Conlon and several other members of the Bulldog Band put together a Dixieland band for home basketball games. Band Director Daniel Hughes led the student body in song with the backing of Tom Toombs on U herald trumpet. The trumPel section of the band was well re- nowned for its 5? ff' A newly-formed music group, the Madrigal Singers, performed at various music events throughout the year, The Madrigals were formed from the A Cappella Choir under the direction of Mr. Daniel Hughes. Epi il The Music Department of PHS pre- sented a well-rounded program of choral and instrumental activities. PHS led the way in vocal music with a superb A Cappella Choir. The choir distinguished itself in special programs and assemblies during the year. In the tield of instrumental music, Pt-lS'ers were all proud ol the Bulldog Band which played at all pep rallies and games. Jerry Todd By blending skill, ability, and individual self-confidence, the aims and purposes of the physical education department at Pasadena High are accomplished. Every student has available to him the opportunity to develop to the highest level ot his ability. Fundamental skills are taught in almost every area with actual competitive sports being available. The Foothill League, ot which PHS is a member, conducted tournaments in football, basketball, baseball, tennis, gymnastics, track, and swimming. ln addition to these sports, regular gym classes altered swim- ming, handball, volleyball, speedball, and various special drills such as calisthenics. Cadet Captain Michael Tiblas inspects the gun of Cadet John Sapetto during a routine in- spection.
