Conlon and several other members of the Bulldog Band put together a Dixieland band for home basketball games. Band Director Daniel Hughes led the student body in song with the backing of Tom Toombs on U herald trumpet. The trumPel section of the band was well re- nowned for its 5? ff' A newly-formed music group, the Madrigal Singers, performed at various music events throughout the year, The Madrigals were formed from the A Cappella Choir under the direction of Mr. Daniel Hughes. Epi il The Music Department of PHS pre- sented a well-rounded program of choral and instrumental activities. PHS led the way in vocal music with a superb A Cappella Choir. The choir distinguished itself in special programs and assemblies during the year. In the tield of instrumental music, Pt-lS'ers were all proud ol the Bulldog Band which played at all pep rallies and games. Next steps in sequence are the stop bath, fix, wash, and dryer. Creativity on canvas is the watchword of the Art Department. Emphasis is given to all forms ot expression from conservative classicism to some ot the more bizarre torms ot modern art. Besides painting, a variety ot other courses were also offered, such as sign painting and poster and billboard clesign. A most important area in the Art Department is photographyg the photography staff not only provided pictures for all issues ot the Chronicle but were responsible tor nearly all ot the 600-plus pictures that appear in this yearbook. Drawing and painting students worked hard to achieve pro perspective. The whole purpose ot gym classes is to create better health and a better attitude ot physical exercise. Classes in badminton, tennis, volleyball, softball, mod- ern dance, basketball, swimming, speedball, hockey, and drill team were available.
