These courses offered only in the senior year of high school, attempt to provide the departing senior with a well-balanced under- standing ot his surroundings. In government one learns the basic foundations of the Ameri- can system. He is taught ot the basic institutions and traditions ot lite in a democracy and of the Constitution which guaran- tees them. In psychology a fundamental understanding of human be- havior and the forces which motivate are taught. World history gives a temporal dimension and an internation- al perspective to the understanding of the United States and its role in the world ot today.

This combination offers the advantage of presentation ot American literature against its proper background ot hsitorical tradition, thus providing an inte- grated understanding of both. ln addition, the block program provides a means of com- munication with all members ot the Junior Class and a basis for the election of the mem- bers ot Rep Council and the transaction of that organizations business. The junior block also provides for a type of informal counseling and guidance which supplements the regular serv- ice. Mr. Neumann has trouble choosing from ci host of U.S. history volunteers.
