Linda Mason holds the noble beast as Mr. Perry observes from a safe distance. Since English is an elective in the twelfth grade, more emphasis can be placed on literature and composition. Seven courses offered are current literature, literary classics, senior composition, public speaking, reading techniques, senior English, and journalism. In current lit, the style, substance, and meaning of the works of contemporary authors are examined, ana- lyzed, and studied. On the other hand, literary classics is concerned with the works of the past. Senior comp and speech deal in the creative as well as in the inter- pretive. One of them is largely written, the other is largely oral, but even so they have much in common and are branches of the same field, communicative expression. The class in reading techniques is designed to improve the speed and comprehension of the reader through improved methods and vocabulary. Journalism courses are primarily concerned with the publication of the school's newspaper, student handbook, yearbook, and sports programs. ,ASQ l
