In one short year the students and faculty have achieved a long series of outstanding successes. We are ever alert to the abundant heritage of accomplishment be- queathed us by a great Pasadena High School of yesteryear. We have all come to realize that whereas buildings and grounds are significant to a school, they are not as important as the human element. The total staff is deeply grateful to the members of the Class of '55 for their leadership in establishing worth-while traditions. The Heart of Pasadena High School is in its program of education and the quality of learning and living that takes place within its classrooms. The Spirit of Pasadena High School is its student body and is evidenced by excellent standards, unselfish service and high morale. The Way of Pasadena High School has been clearly identified by our pioneer team this year-Our First. The Way of Greatness is the Way of Quality. We Are On Our Way! GLADISS EDWARDS , A E Dr. Stuart F. A FOOTBALL Pasadena's Bulldogs las a single unit set apart from the collegel opened a new era of high school sports in 1954. Under the expert leadership of head coach Ed Nyden, last year's college coach, and coach Bob Bastian, the righting Bulldogs compiled a tive win, four loss record against the hardest free-lance competition they could find. A case of iitters was the cause of their first defeat at the hands of Compton. When the mighty Cavemen of San Diego came to Pasadena for battle, they were impolitely sent away licking their wounds to the tune of a 25-O defeat. This tirst win for Pasadena unveiled a tine iunior quarterback by the name of Don Hall of whom Crown City fans were to hear more, A halfback by the name of Hideki Hamamoto was also thrown into the limelight tor the remainder of the season. After the San Diego victory the Bulldogs gained momentum and proceeded to roll over Fillmore, 44-O, and Antelope Valley, 33-13. Next in line was the powerful Baldwin Park club. In the Hrst series of downs, Hamamoto worked his favorite oft-tackle play and went all the way for six points, but when the dust cleared that evening, the scoreboard showed a 6-7 defeat for Pasadena. With spirit high, the Bulldogs came back to knock oft Long Beach Poly 32-14 and Point Loma 27-19. Pasadena then iourneyed to Las Vegas and suftered a hard fought 7-2O loss. ln their last tussle of the season, Pasadena was nosed out by John Muir 12-19 in the new series of Turkey Tussles. As the first season came to a close, our hats were oft to our Hghting team. BULLPUP FOOTBALL SEASON The Bullpups of Pasadena made their big brothers proud of them by running up a terrific eight win and one loss record. Led by the running ot Wesley Johnson and Dirk Bailey and the passing of Tom Kennedy, the lightweights had a powerful scoring punch. The stone wall defense of the Pups held their opponents to an average of less than five points per game. Their only loss came at the hands of Long Beach Poly, 6-9.
