CLASS HISTORY Starting out as Freshmen, we too, were green, but we were not alone for the whole school was initiated into a brand new. building, however the upper classmen didn't fail to push us around a bit. And was that registration day ever a trial for us. Whew!! We'd never been so tired figuring out what to study??? For our first class sponsor, we selected Mr, Everette Mclllwain, He treated us to a weiner roast at Natchez Trace, Then we had our Christmas Party and exchanged gifts, which was about the sum total of our social affairs. After a year of struggle we were Silly Sophomores and a more appropriate name was bever given, Mr. Sam Pearson and Mr, Leslie Moody were our class co-sponsors. Our sponsors gave us a Christmas Party and dance which proved to be the greatest social event of our sophomore days. We also went on a hay- ride to Natchez, well, maybe we didn't have any hay, after all, but we had plenty fun. Leaving another memorable year behind us, we began to feel exceedingly important to have the title Jolly Juniors applied to us, And jolly we all were at that, for we delved into our work with our sleeves rolled up--for this was the year to begin raising our class funds. This year Mr. Fred Long had been re- placed by a new principal, Mr. H. V. Webb. We selected Mr. Dwayne Tucker as our class sponsor. Our foremost thought of the year was raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, for we wanted to give the Seniors the best banquet ever to be had at Parsons High, Mr. Tucker gave us a grand Christmas Party and there we received our reward for best salesmanship in the annual magazine drive. Our Junior play The Able Miss Cain was one of the outstanding events of the year, It was, we thought, one of the. best ever put on by P.H.S, Anyway, it was given twice and those who saw it will never forget its cast. The Banquet we gave for the Seniors was a big hit, too, We bade farwell to our jolly year by having an all day outing--fishing, picnicking, hiking, and camp fire singing on the banks of the Tennes- see River, We had lots of fun decorating and setting the stage for the Seniors Commencement exercises, Yes, this had been a great year. We had worked hard and felt that our accomplishments were many. Ah, at last we had reached the height of our high school days. We had passed through the stages-- Lowly Freshmen, Silly Sophomores, Jolly Juniors and now with the oncoming classes we can see how very definitely those names fit--but we had won through much struggle the name Dignified Seniors, and we were on the top rung of the ladder. With a unanimous vote we again chose Mr. Tucker as class sponsor. The first activity of the year was our stand at the county fair, We proudly boast about making more money there than any class ever made before!!! Besides this we also made money by selling tickets on a television set, selling Christmas cards, magazines, and flowers. This year we had our annual Christmas Party and dance with the Juniors. Again we received a big box of candy for selling the most magazines, Later we sponsored the Valentine Carnival. We needed lots of money now for that class trip. The Juniors treated us to a splendid banquet and did it feel grand to just sit back and enjoy it without a care at all. Then finally our dreams came true--Commencement Week--the Baccalaureate sermon, Senior play and graduation with the Grand finale--the trip to New Orleans--what fun! At last we had reached the end of our High School days. We had lost several members of our class by their moving and getting married. And we still had several in the class who sailed the sea of matrimony but still were ambitious enough to graduate. In spite of the loss of many we still broke the record in the history of Parsons High by having the largest class to ever graduate. And as we leave behind our four years of hard work, parties, plays, sports, assignments and banquets- - it has been fun after all and these memories will never fade from the hearts of the PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF '53
