I feel that the coal miners don't have any foundation for holding out for a better contract. The one which was offered gave them a substantial raise in wages and better benefits. It seems the miners didn't like that one because they couldn't have wildcat strikes without being fined. These strikes are com- pletely unfounded and usu- ally never accomplish any- thing anyway. Many miners even feel that they have the right to force non-union mines to close. To the point of resorting to violence.

What Do You Think Of Teenage Marriages? A teenage marriage in my opinion, is fine if the two people involved are respon- sible enough to realize ev- erything marriage involves. They must understand each other and accept their dif- ferences. You must under- stand that you may do or say things which may hurt each other, yet willing to overlook petty arguments. You must learn to compro- mise and not expect every- thing to go your way. You should show your affection often. A marriage should last forever if you remem- ber these things. James P. Poling Of course, it is the miners interest to stop all coal from being mined to put the pinch on the public. But we cannot let one group of workers put many states into a state of emergency every time their contract expires. If I were in charge, I'd send the national guard into all non-union mines which the miners were trying to close and force them to leave. They would guard the mines while the non- union miners would dig the coal. If they had to shoot a couple of them, maybe that would stop the rest. This would probably keep us going until summer, when we would be much less vulnerable. Mark Felton
