Text from Pages 1 - 176 of the 1971 volume:

1971 PANTHER PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL PARSONS, WEST VIRGINIA Volume XXVI Hello darkness my old friend I’ve come to talk with you again . . . ... my mind wanders through a mazeofall the never-to-be-forgotten memories of my years in P.H.S. 2 Because a vision softly creeping Left it’s seeds while was sleeping . . Before me flash pictures of my first days in this school. Shy. eager. afraid. I entered these halls hoping that I might become an integral part of all the activity. And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains ... 1 reached out and friendly faces accepted me. Slowly 1 became entwined in every facet of school life--the hustle between classes, the special assemblies, the lunch line at noon hour. In restless dreams I walk alone . . Many times I crammed for an exam knowing that I should have studied soon- er - hoping that I could retain enough of the material to pass. Afterward ... the agony of waiting for the results. 5 ”1 turn my collar to the cold and damp . . Sometimes I felt as if the whole world were against me, even my closest friends. I had more than my share of problems, but some- how things usually worked out. 6 My eyes were stabbed by tbe flash of a neon light, that split the night . . Suddenly, pictures of people - happy, ques- tioning, indifferent - pop into my mind. I pause to thinkof the many mixed emotions and expres- sions I've seen in just a short walk from one end of the hall to the other. 7 8 And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people maybe more. People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening . . Fleeting glimpses of an athletic game race through my mind. I hear the crowd cheering tirelessly - repeating syllables with no thought given to their meaning. I see victory or defeat written on each anxious face as the game is re- lived, play by play. 9 Hear my words that I might teaeh you, take my arms that I might reach you . . . I learned from my teachers - competent, patient, re- assuring, They helped me with each new problem. It was a slow climb, but my reward of achievement was enough to make me try again. To Honor . . Miss Louise Williams 12 A kindly word, a cheery smile, a help- ing hand - all these things characterize Miss Williams. Forty-three years of her lifehave been dedicated to education with twenty- three of these years spent in Parsons High School where she has always greeted each new task with the seeking spirit of a true scholar. In our small way we of the PANTHER STAFF and the Senior Class express not only our own appreciation of Miss Williams but also that of the entire student body. This isn’t just an ordinary book but a representation of each individual and com- mon bond between you and me. You, the reader, must add the life to these pages. 16 Adviser MRS.
