i THE 1967 PANTHER EDITOR: DIANA GILMORE BUSINESS MGR. : DAVID GREENLIEF ASST. EDITOR: HELEN SMITHSON PHOTOGRAPHER: CHARLES S! Ilf LETT FOREWORD In a short time the PANTHER will lose its immediate appeal. In a few years, however, it will serve as some adult’s key to remi- niscence. As remembrance is a yearbook’s purpose, the PAN- THER serves well only if it causes readers to remember high school in Parsons, 1966-1967. With a picture of a new land- mark, the post office, we begin your yearbook which emphasizes our own Tucker County. We hope to accentuate on these pages the importance of our county in its relationship to school and stu- dents. Theme — Tucker County This page is Sponsored by MRS. AGNES GREEN LIEF 2 Table of Contents FACULTY SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN JUNIORS ORGANIZATIONS ATHLETICS FAVORITES ACTIVITIES ADVERTISERS INDEX Dedication Coach Neil A. Gutshall We Dedicate With Sincere Admiration Sports are a unifying factor in any high school, hi PHS, the sports scene has instilled the student body with enthusiasm and, above all. genuine pride. We feel that it is now time to honor that person whose dedication to his boys has inspired countless victories. All these who have been coached by him have acquired high ideals of sportsmanship and the understanding of true victory - that it is not whether you win the game but how you play it. We. the PANTHER Staff of 1967, in appreciation of his contributions to our class, do dedicate this PANTHER to our coach. COACH GUTSHALL. This page is Sponsored by DR. and MRS. S. M. ULIENFELD Administrators Man through the ages, has sought to further his knowledge, which in turn would better his life. Young people who have acquired a skill or a good basic education will have a better chance at interesting work, good wages, steady employment, and greater satisfaction in general. Our highway of learning is trav- eled once in a lifetime. It can provide a profitable journey if each student, teacher, and parent assumes his just portion of the obligation. Message From Principal Earl B. Sines Thorcau once said, If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now, put the foundations under them.” As students at Parsons High School, you are building the foundations to go under your “castles in the air.” You build your foundations through striving for academic achievement, through learning to concentrate on the studies set before you, through budgeting and using your time, all of which will prepare you for a useful place in society. 7 iHn Each Day at PHS ... early and late, more than four hun |ed endlessly busy PHS gather in clusters a d crowds... join in routine dail)|affairs of classes and clubs... check the latest reports of projects and parties, of plans and paraphernalia... share work and play, joy and tears, victory and defeat - all of the moments that combine to form the years we call ’’the best.' 8 Faculty PHS Faculty HOWARD ASHBY M.A. - W. Freshmen In 1963 they took over their responsibilities as freshmen. Their sponsors were Mrs. Jean Burns, Miss Louise Williams, Mr. Robert Felton, and Mr. Guy Saporito. Their Student Council members were Linda Blankenship, Diana Gilmore, and Ramonda Roach. The officers elected to take over their business relations were president, Jeanette Murphy; vice-president, Mike Denison; secretary, Valerie Cuonzo; treasurer, Danny Wilfong; cheerleader, Peggy Shahan. They chose their animal, flower, and colors. Sophomores With a little more confidence they became sophomores in the year of 1964. They came up with an all-female representation on the Student Council; they were Jeanne Goss, Brenda Long, Valerie Cuonzo and Judy Wamsley. The offi- cers selected to lead the class were president, Danny Wilfong; vice-president, Mike Lewis; secretary, Mike Denison; treasurer, Charles Ketterman; cheerleader, Sharon Murray. To obtain money to meet their financial needs in the future they sold parkas, jerseys, and Christmas cards. Juniors In 1965 they roared into their junior year with excitement and energetic plans. Student Council members were Patricia Bonner, Jeanette Murphy, Ramonda Roach, and Dave Hensford. Officers for the year were president, Diana Gilmore; vice-president, Jeanette Murphy; secretary, Judy Wamsley; treasurer, Valerie Cuonzo; cheerleader, Jo- anna Kelley. During their term they sold sweatshirts, candy, pop, and Christmas cards. They also sponsored a dance and the Used Book Store. Mr. Albert Prichard, a '66 D. and E. graduate, took Miss Williams' place as a sponsor. The big event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom at D. E. 's Benedum Hall at Elkins on May 27. The Renegades furnished music for dancing and a folk singing group The Congressmen also entertained for a short time following the dinner hour. Seniors Swinging into their senior year at full speed, they chose the following as then officers: president, David Lilienfeld; vice-president, Richard Stokes; secretary, Jeanne Goss; treasurer, Valerie Cuonzo; cheerleader, Joanne Kelley. The Stu- dent Council members for the year of '66-'67 were Sharon Murray, Helen Smith- son, Diana Gilmore, and Brenda Long. Again the Class of '67 sponsored the Used Book Store; then they sat back and took a financial rest thinking mostly about caps and gowns, senior pictures, memory books, etc. A detailed history of the Senior year is not needed as the '67 PANTHER has recorded it for posterity.
