1966 Parsons High School Parsons, West Virginia Volume XXI Foreword In a short time the PANTHER will lose ns im- mediate appeal, in a short time, too, it will serve as some adult's key to reminiscence. As remembrance is a yearbook's purpose, the PANTHER serves well only if it causes readers to remember high school days in Parsons. 1965-1966. Character is like a tree and reputation, like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. --Abraham Lincoln 5 6 This Book to You — Class of ’66 S is for the SENIORS of '66 Who emerge from the shadows as solid bricks. E is for the EXCITEMENT of a ball game Which brings the PANTHERS instant fame. _N is for the NINETY-FIVE of tomorrow; For some there will be joy; others, sorrow. 2 is for the INFATUATIONS of guys and dolls; The little love notes and holding hands in the halls. O is for the OPPORTUNITIES of life. Whether it be college, a job, husband, or wife. _R is for the RAPTURE of graduation; And afterward, an occasional trial or tribulation. is for the SADNESS of leaving P.H.S. To each of us. Oh, Parsons High, you are the best!! I — SANDRA JEAN SINDER—- Editor Better Book in ’66 — MRS. JEAN BURNS It has been a great honor and privilege to be the editor of the 1966 PANTHER. We have done our best to record accurately the year’s events for your enjoyment. In as many places as possible, we have tried to catch and hold your attention. The student and faculty bodies have been very co-operative and patient. With deep appreciation, 1 would like to express thanks to all my efficient workers and to Mrs. Bums who has freely given us her assistance, not to mention time, in making the 1966 PANTHER one of the best. I sincerely hope you will enjoy this book as much as we. the Staff members, have enjoyed compiling it. Local Administrators Tucker Co. Board of Education (L. to R.) H.A. Meyers; William Miller; Mrs. June Ann Carr, Secretary; Mrs. Louise Lilienfeld; Stelman Har- per, Superintendent; Delton Mullenax Supt. of Schools Behind the Scenes Meeting regularly once a month, the school board has made many plans during the 1965-66 year. Busy members take their time to plan the district's school program. One very large job this group does is to study the curriculum often with members of the West Virginia State Education Depart- ment, to make certain that our courses are up to date. Other duties are having repairs made, rooms painted, and equip- ment checked. Still another responsibility is the complex budget for the school which must be presented to the voters of the school district. Although we often do not realize that they are working quietly behind the scenes, our Board is at the head of the administrative functions of P.H.S. ------------------------------------ MR. They have sold sweatshirts, candy, Christmas cards, and have had a dance. Among other things, they are having a car wash in the spring. Another fund- raising scheme is the operating of the pop and candy machines. Their Junior-Senior Banquet will be held at the Blackwater Lodge on April 29, and followed later by a May prom. 36 Class Sponsors MISS LOUISE WILLIAMS MRS. JEAN BURNS MR. GUY SAPORI TO MR. Poor, poor Uncle Sam--JOYCE BARR and SHARON HED- RICK have formed a Fight For Our Rights to protect their interest in the U.S. Army. Freedom of Speech seems to be the favorite topic for LARRY BATES who is now filibustering Congress. In New York working hard at their jobs are LARRY BOD- KIN who plays first clarinet in the Philharmonic Or- chestra and ELEANOR HARPER, editor of the Times. More, more, more, cries TYKE BODKIN vainly, for he is in need of more members in his newly organized I Love Women Club. GARY BONNER and DENZIL FRIEND pay JACK CROSTEN a pretty penny for the use of his drag strip so they can get from one girl's house to the other's in a jiffy. La, la, la, la —VIVIAN HOLLER seems to be in per- fect tune to try for her third win on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour. The White House is the scene where we find JEAN- ETTE HOLTZ and PEARL HUFFMAN as first ladies to the First Lady. Certs is a breath mint! Certs is a candy mint! JU- DY and MARILYN KELLEY say it's both, on their TV commercial. The hours tick away and with each tick MODONNA KISAMORE completes another page of her 19th book, How to Study. Although GLEN KNOTTS is the greatest Disc Jockey in the world, listen to DENNY SNYDER for five min- utes of news on the hour, every hour. Please buy the new record I'm Gonna Graduate by the Skippers --TERRY KNOTTS and CHARLES HEBB. Please, please marry me, begged DONNA KRESGE for the 99th time to the 99th different fellow.
