As West Virginians, we are proud Of your never-ending grandeur - - The valleys wide and mountains high In all your glorious.splendor. To us you have given much, Many people of great name; To the world they have contributed History, honor, and great fame. We're proud of the schools and universities Which aid the culture of the state. And various resources plenty. Also numerous industries great. As we leave Parsons High We're saluting you. As your majesty begins A century anew. - - Barbara Sue Angel BOARD of EDUCATION (L. to r.) Lawrence Losh; H. A. Meyer; Miss Eloise Bergstrom; Mrs. June Ann Carr, secretary; Mrs. Louise Lilenfeld; Harold Parsons, director of attendance; Stelman Harper, superintendent; and William P. Minear. Superintendent’s Message Educational Opportunity is a part of our Tucker County Heritage. We pause in this West Virginia Centennial Year to honor those forefathers who provided both the classrooms and the operating costs from their meager earnings to establish the beginning of public education in Tucker County. If West Virginia is to keep abreast of the space age in the next century, each of us will need to make use of every opportunity to secure knowledge and develop needed skills to make a living. The educational future of each child will be determined by the amount of parental encouragement he receives, the in- creasing efforts of our faculty to impart functional knowledge, and last but not least, the amount of effort put forth by the student. Our highway of learning is traveled once in a lifetime. It can provide a profitable journey if each student, teacher, and parent assumes his just portion of the obligation. SUPERINTENDENT Stelman Harper 8 Principal’s Message To the students of PHS: Good luck to all of you. Earl Sines Today most of us would like to be a John Glenn or a Thomas A. Edison. But how many would have been willing to be a Glenn or Edison when they were constantly laboring, studying, training, and devouring all they could find which would fit them for the fame that was to be theirs? No man can give out unless he first takes in. You can't give what you don't Think originally I If you can contribute one ounce of original thought to society, if you can originate just one new idea, you will have met my challenge. May 1 say always remember that valuable possessions multiply when shared with others. Your mind begins to grow as you share it. There will be many who will agree to this, but then never do a single thing. Or, they will just try one thing and then another, but they will do them in a half- HOWARD ASHBY MISS GRACE BRIGHT Parsons High MISS MARIE LIPSCOMB PHS Faculty ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Mrs. Bertie Rennix Office Staff Left to right: Addie Nestor, Kay Sinclair, Judy Johnson. '63 Class History Again, in dear ”01e PHS it's time for another senior class to bid farewell to classmates, teachers, and to all the activities we have loved so dearly during our years in Parsons High. Yes, once again the curtain falls on a graduating class. In 1960 we entered Parsons High School as freshmen with an enrollment of 97. Our sponsors were Miss Louise Williams and Charles Ryan. The class officers were as follows: President - - -- ---------....---------------------- - Judy Johnson Vice-President...................................... - R0nda Filler Secretary -- - - ------------JoAnn Parsons Treasurer -- - - --------Ann Ridgway Class Cheerleaders.......................................Ronda Filler Patricia Kalar The Student Council representatives for the Freshman Class were Joe Hebb and Gary Martin (Parsons). We chose for our motto. Onward for God and Country, and the animal was a skunk. We selected as our class colors black and white, and the flower was the pink carnation. The next year as sophomores, we had a total of 77 members. With Mr. Ryan leaving, Mr. Harold Walters took his place as a sponsor. All of the officers were changed with the exception of one. They are as follows: President - ------------------------------------------ Judy Johnson Vice-President .. - -Barbara Angel Secretary..............................................Michell Shupp Treasurer.............................................Patricia Kalar Class Cheerleaders------------------------------------ Barbara Angel Goldie Miner The Student Council representatives were Howard Lambert and Jerry Carr. With the Junior and Senior Banquet coming up in 1962, the class sold sweat shirts to raise money. Again, we came back to PHS, this time as juniors, with only 73 members. The class sponsors were changed again, with Guy Saporito, Mrs. Jean H. Bums, and Robert Felton joining Miss Williams. The officers were completely changed and a class council was added. Barbara Angel ■ Judy Johnson - -Linda Bright Wilma Shahan - Ronda Filler President - - — ■ Vice-President - • Secretary------- Treasurer ------ Class Cheerleader The Student Council representatives were Joe Hebb, Saundra Syrian, Ronda Filler, and Charles Lloyd. For the first time our class was allowed to have two varsity cheerleaders. They were Louetta Bohon and Goldie Miner. Barbara Angel and Joe Hebb represented our class at the “Know Your State Government Day” in Charleston. The day finally came and we ordered our class rings and then we were busy pre- paring for the Junior and Senior Banquet. The Junior girls were runners-up in the Inter-Class Tournament, and Barbara Angel escorted the Senior Class of '62 at Commencement. Four juniors received the highest honor ever given, that of being selected for the National Honor Society. They were Barbara Angel, Judy Johnson, Joe Hebb. and Cletis Vanscoy. This was the end of our Junior year and the next one saw us end our PHS days. Parsons High School Song We're loyal to you, Parsons Hi! We're purple and gold. Parsons Hi! We'll back you to stand against the best in the land For we know you can stand. Parsons Hi! Rah! Rah! So smash that blockade, Parsons Hi! Go forging ahead, Parsons Hi! Our team is our fame protector On boys, for we expect a Victory for Parsons High!!! 86 Saundra Syrian Senior Diane Matlick Junior Diana Irvin Junior JoAnn Parsons Senior Treasa Bolyard Sophomore Connie Gaither Senior Jerri Bodkin Sophomore Ronda Filler Head Majorette RONDA FILLER, Head Majorette FIRST ROW (L. to R.): L.
