HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1959 We, the class of 1959, first entered the doors of PHS as 128 freshmen who elected as our officers: Roger Lydick, President; Kenny Bickerton, Vice President; Amanda Lambert. Secretary; Betty Sue Arbogast, Treasurer; and Mrs. Jean Burns and Mr. Robert Felton, Sponsors. Carolyn Stewart and Donna Parsons were selected cheerleaders by the student body. The colors chosen, after several changes, were black and white; the class flower was to be the pink carnation. The motto to be the class guide was Ever Forward - Never Backward! Our goal for the coming four years was to make enough money to take a class trip in our senior year. Our projects to make money consisted of movies, plays, and parties. The plays presented were Crazy Comebacks and Bar- gains in Haircuts. Our pride and joy this year was Sonny Carr, who became a letter - man in football and basketball. Kenny Bickerton won second place in the finals of the Junior Talent Contest. Only 112 sophomores returned in the fall of 1956. Officers this year were: Sonny Carr, President, replacing Roger Lydick who had moved to Florida; Allen Lewis was Vice President; Janet Johnson, Secretary; and Bernard Martin was Treasurer. Our cheer- leaders were the same as our freshman year cheerleaders. The class again sponsored a movie, Hot Rod and presented the Veterans Day program. The big event for the class was the Sadie Hawkins Day party. Selling letters also proved to be profitable. Our junior year began with 99 members. As sometimes happens, we had an ail male cabinet. Our President and Treasurer were retained from the sophomore year. The new Vice President was Joe Roy, and Secretary, Allen Lewis. Carolyn Stewart was chosen as the junior cheerleader, but was replaced later by Patty Young when Carolyn became Mrs. Lynn Ferguson. Several honors were received by juniors this year. Amanda Lambert and Dewey Fazenbaker represented PHS at Know Your State Government Day; Kay Baker won the spelling contest as she had done in her sophomore year; Amanda Lambert, Janet Johnson, and Kay Baker were the first PHS students to ever attend Girls' State . The five juniors chosen by the faculty to the National Honor Society were: Sonny Carr, Amanda Lambert, Louise Nestor, Kathleen Myers, and Kay Baker. Our junior year was a busy one. We sponsored a very successful pro- gram, Shower of Stars ; sold Christmas cards; had charge of the pop , candy, and ice cream stands; and greatly enjoyed presenting the Junior-Senior Banquet in May. With the banquet theme Kismet , the auditorium became an Arabian desert with shieks, camels, palm trees, flying carpets, genies, oases, and pyramids. Finally the last and most exciting year of our PHS days was here. Although Cupid's arrows had struck several of our girls, we had an enrollment of 87 seniors in the fall of 1958. Our senior cabinet was the same as in the junior year with the exception of Jan- et Johnson, who became the new Vice President; Louise Nestor, the new Reporter; and Dewey Fazenbaker, Historian. The main activity for our senior year was making money, with our byword being, sell. Sell, SELL! !! And sell we did. We sold every- thing from jewelry to stationery, and had fun doing it. A Ridge-Runner's Day was also held by the seniors. WASHINGTON, HERE WE COME!!! The Senior Trip, which we had worked for during the four years, had finally come to be a reality. For all these happy memories and many more, we will always be indebted to Parsons High School.
