TUCKER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY OF PARSONS HIGH SCHOOL Parsons High School was founded in 1914 and was located in the building which is presently Parsons Grade School. The graduating class of 1914 consisted of only seven members while the largest class to graduate from PHS was in 1933 when ninety people received diplomas. During the school year of 1923-4, W. K. Rice, then principal of PHS. changed the school name to Blackfork District High School; however, it was changed back to Parsons High School the follow ing year. Perhaps the greatest honor ever known by PHS was in 1934 when its basketball team won the state championship by defeating Elkins 33-30 in the finals. The school was moved to its present site in 1939 shortly after the new building was completed. The total number of graduates from PHS to date is 2,413.
