'Ztetoxy oj (£1 44 f956 We, the class of 1956, first entered the doors of P. H. S. as freshmen, composed of one hundred thirty-five members. We elected as our sponsors, Mr. Sullivan and Miss Graham. Our cabinet was composed of: President, Bill Rosenau; Vice President, Juanita Wilfong; Secretary, Willetti Lambert; Treasurer, Jeanette McCrum Bishop; Reporter, Bill Miller; Song Leader, Carol Sponaugle; and Cheerleader, Willetti Lambert. We chose as our motto - Look Sharp, Feel Sharp, Be Sharp! The yellow rose was selected as our class flower and green and white as the class colors. Linda Pifer Hockman and Alfred Sha- han represented our class in the Homecoming. The freshman girls won the class tourna- ment. Bill Rosenau received a letter in basketball and football. The next fall we came back to P. H. S. as sophomores with one hundred five members. Officers elected were: President, Frank Carr; Vice President, Carole Orr; Secretary, Sylvia Knotts; Treasurer, Janet Copeland; Reporter, Bill Miller; Song Leader, Rachel McClain; and Student Council, Dorothy Waybright and Caryl Lydick. We changed our mono to: Today We Follow; Tomorrow We Lead and our class colors to red and white. We elected Mrs. Joan Groves Parsons to take Miss Graham's place as sponsor. The play, Beacon Hill-Billy, was given for the purpose of raising money for the class. Our class was represented in the Homecoming by Sylvia Knotts and Don Black. The girls once again took the class tournament. Lawrence Stevens, Frank Mullennex, Harry Sommerville, and Walter Jones received letters in football. Once again we returned to P. H. S.; this time as juniors with an enrollment of eighty- five members. The new officers were: President, Bill Rosenau; Vice President, Fred Price; Secretary, Sylvia Knotts; Treasurer, Linda Pifer Hockman; Song Leader, Juanita Wilfong; Student Council, Frank Carr and Elda McDaniel; and Historians, Frank Carr and Carole Orr. Karen Carr and Morris Jones represented our class in the annual Homecoming. We ordered our class rings in November and received them in March, with which we were well pleased. Those chosen to the National Honor Society were Willetti Lambert, Janet Copeland, Louise Dumire, Caryl Lydick and Carole On. The girls again took the class tournament. Those receiving letters in basketball were Lawrence Stevens, Frank Mullen- nex, and Keith Wilfong. Keith Wilfong, Paul Sponaugle, and Clifford Phillips received letters in football. We sold Christmas cards and had charge of the pop stand during the year in order to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, which was held in May. The setting and decorations followed the Circus theme. A prom was held after the banquet. As mighty seniors we entered dear old P. H. S. with an enrollment of eighty-four with high hopes of graduating in the spring. The only changes in officers were: Treasurer, Elda McDaniel and Reporter, Willetti Lambert. Miss Frum replaced Mrs. Parsons as class sponsor. Caryl Lydick, Willetti Lambert, Richie Williams and Judy Shields were chosen from our class as princesses in the Tucker County Fair. Our Queen for the Homecoming was Janet Copeland. Her escort was Donald Nestor. The Maid of Honor and her escort were Jackie Evick and Dale Nestor. Seniors accepted into the N. H.S. were Elda McDaniel, Karen Can, Juanita Wilfong, Jackie Evick, Grace Taylor, Judy Shields, Ruth Long, Rachel McClain, Dorris Pennington, Morris Jones, Bill Miller, Frank Mullennex, and Fred Price. Those receiving letters for the first time in football were Charles Sturms, Robert Lewis, Dale Nestor, Clark Auvil, and Manager, Charles Loughry. Richard Roy received a letter in basketball for the first time. The final page has been turned to bring the book to fold on the history of another senior class.
