Before we close the curtain turn the clock back to our Freshmen, We were Freshman when the hands of the clock pointed at nine, but we feel that we were never the little green, timid Freshmen that so many speak of. We have always been sure of what we wanted and hc.ve come to class with that vision before us. We took our place in the full activity of that year with Nancy Auvil as our president; Jane Ann Griffith as vice-president; Dorothy Bava as secretary; Helen Felton as treasurer; Deets Floyd, reporter and Nancy Barb as cheerleader. We chose Chester Marshall and Mrs. Pauline Harris as our sponsors. We had seven boys out for basketball, and three for football. The Vo-Ag had thirteen boys that year from our class. The Town A-H club had seven. Fifteen class members were in the Glee Club. Jane Hamrick was one of the band majorettes. When the hands of the clock pointed to ten we returned for our sophomore year led by Phil Wolf as president; Charles Eye as vice-president; Edwin Booth as secretary; Carl Bible as treasurer; and Norma Collett as reporter. Harold Parsons and Mrs. Harris were our sponsors and Nancy Barb, cheerleader. Twenty six members fell by the wayside during the first year's march to number us one hundred. Football and basketball held the same members for this year. The Glee Club listed twenty sophomores and the Triple Trio, two members. Eleven girls were accepted into the Tri-Hi-I, and five boys in the Hi-I. Ten members of our class were in the Drama Club, twelve in the Town 4-H and eleven in the Rural 4-H. Thirteen boys in the Vo-Ag club. Three girls and one boy participated in the Junior-Senior banquet. Sophomore boys also served as waiters. Only eighty seven returned for the third year period as the clock hands pointed to eleven. We were led by Deets Floyd as president; Phil Wolf, vice- president; Judy Gable, secretary-treasurer; Norma Collett, reporter, Nancy Barb, cheerleader and the same sponsors, Mrs. Harris and Mr. Parsons. We were faced with our first major problem, the Junior-Senior banquet. Through the proceeds of the Pop stand and other projects we netted the money for the banquet. Our theme was the Old South and we carried out the theme in the program, color scheme and the decorations. Four members of our class were admitted into the National Honor society and they were Nancy Barb, Phil Wolf, Bemettie Pennington and Helen Felton. Seven members of the class were in the Student Council; three in the Hi-Y, twenty in the Glee club, twelve in the F. F. A. Seven were in the Town 4-H Club and eleven in the rural 4-H club. Six boys reported for football and five for basketball. Guy Waybright was the manager of the basketball team. Seven boys were made members of the All Letter Club. Four Junior Girls were listed in the library work and four in the office. As the hands of the clock pointed to twelve we entered the grand finale of our school career and the last mile with only seventy seven returning. Our class colors were green and white and our flower was the sweetpea. Class officers were Deets Floyd, president; Elton Dodd, vice-president; Charles Eye, secretary—treasurer; Ann Phillips, reporter; Norma Collett, Historian; Nancy Barb, cheerleader; Sue Mateer and Marie Shaffer, members of the Student Council. Mrs. Harris and Mr. Parsons agreed to pilot us through the last year. Seven boys were listed on the football squad and six on the basketball team. Four boys were in the Hi-Y, eleven boys and girls in the Bow Tie Club, eighteen on the Echo Staff, fourteen girls in the Tri-Hi-Y, and twenty on the Year Book Staff. Superior Award Certificates in bookkeeping were presented to Mary Jane Mateer, Sue Mateer and Margie Kimble. They were also eligible to wear the National 0. B. E. pin. Margie Kimble, Jane Hamrick, Nancy Barb, Eva Moore, Helen Owens, Frances Close and Ollie Carrico were members of the court of Queen Daphne V at the Tucker county fair. Phil Wolf, Charles Eye and Deets Floyd were escorts. The Junior girls won the basketball tournament and the Junior boys were runner-up. Nola Martin, Nancy Auvil and Guy Hansford won awards in the Essay writing for the National Anthology. Marie Shaffer was awarded a camera for selling the most pictures for the Student Council. Nancy Auvil, Elton Dodd, Bonnie Bohnke, Norma Collett, Jimmie Goff, Helen Harsh, Jane Hamrick, Mary Jane Mateer, Sue Mateer, William Murphy, Betty Lou Parsons and Ann Phillips were admitted as new members of the National Honor Society. Nancy Auvil, Charles Eye, Margie Kimble, Mary Jane Mateer, Betty Lou Parsons, Ruth Poling, Francis Close, Ollie Carrico, Elton Dodd and Mary Nestor had their poems accepted by the National high school Poetry Anthology. Parsons Panthers met Shinnston in the second annual Homecoming game Oct. 13, 1950. Nancy Auvil reigned as Queen Nancy I, with Helen Harsh and Bonnie Bohnke as her maids of honor. Howard Pinney, Charles Eye and Carl Bible were their escorts. The hands of the clock now point to twelve and it is time for us to slip into the dim halls of memory as the curtain closes on the class of '51.
