The officers for our first year were: President, Jack Gable; Vice President, Helen Baker; Secretary, Orlen Eye; Treasurer, Edith Sponaugle; Reporter, David Gatrell; Cheerleader, Effie Jane Pennington; and Sponsors, Mary Carroll and Homer Brooks. Freshmen members on the Junior High Basketball Team were Jack Gable, Pete Ketterman, Milton Arnold, Jack Gil- more, Bob Barton, Jack Rhoades, Ford Barr, and Sonny Ours. Jack Gable and Jack Gilmore also substituted for the regular high school team. They were wed represented at football practice by Charles Kyer, Jack Gable, Jack Gil- more, Sonny Ours, Eddie Powers, Pete Ketterman, Jack Rhoades, Kenneth Ho- vatter, Dale Nester, and Ford Barr. The class also engaged in other activi- ties with seven in Band, fifteen in Glee Club, fourteen in 4-H, twenty-five in F. F. A., and eight in Junior Tri-Hi-Y. The Sophomore year started with a drop in enrollment from 105 to 97. A change was made in officers, this year’s choice being: President, Jack Gil- more; Vice President, Mary McVicker; Secretary, Martha McDonald; Treasurer, Irene Credel; Historian, JoAnne Black- burn; Reporter, Dick Macey; Cheer- leader, Effie Jane Pennington, and Sponsors, Mary Carroll and Homer Brooks. This year on the football team were: Captain, Pete Ketterman, Sonny Ours, Jack Gable, Jack Rhoades, Jack Gil- more, Bob Barton, Lewis Sponaug e, Truman Phillips, and Kenneth Hovatter. Basketball players were Jack Gable, and Jack Gilmore on the regular team and Pete Ketterman, Sonny Ours, Jack Rhoades, and Bob Barton on the re- serves. The Sophomore girls won the class basketball tournament with the fol- lowing players: Mary Anna Gilmore, Patty Goff, Wanda Miller, Josephine Hehle, Nancy Purkey, Joan Roy, Ruth Mullenax. At least six members of the class were on the Honor Roll this year and there w’ere eleven in Tri-Hi-Y, three in Hi-Y, thirteen in Glee Club, three in Triple Trio, two in Drama Club, fourteen in 4-H and seven out for Track. The class was a little more active this year and their float tied for first place in the parade sponsored by the Memorial Park Organization. Both boys and gir's placed first in the class basketball tour- nament. The Junior year also showed a de- crease in enrollment from the previous years. Officers for this year were: President. Jack Gable; Vice President, David Gatrell; Secretary, Orlen Eye; Treasurer, Betty Don McDonald; Historian, JoAnne Blackburn; and Sponsors, Betty Pat Wil- son (Miss Carroll having resigned) and Homer Brooks. This was a very important year and everyone was busy raising money and planning for the Junior, Senior Banquet. The theme used was the “Stork Club,” and much time was spent decorating for it. The class still was out in sports with Charles Kyer, Kenny Hovatter, Pete Ket- terman. Jack Gable, Bob Barton, Jack Rhoades, Kelly Day, and Truman Phil- lips in football and Bob Barton, Paul Eye, Jack Rhoades, Pete Ketterman, and Jack Gable in basketball. The representation in clubs was high, with the following: Tri-Hi-Y, Wanr’a Miller, Josephine Hehle, JoAnne Black- burn, Sally Ann English, Nancy Donalds, Dolly Shahan, Winnie Plum, Mary Mc- Vicker, Effie Jane Pennington, Margaret Barb, Patty Goff; Hi-Y, Dave Gatrell. Jack Gable, Bob Barton, Donnie Poling, and Jack Rhoades; Glee Club, Mary Mc- Vicker, Betty Don McDonald, Patty Goff, Margaret Barb, Ruth Mullenax, Mary Anna Gilmore, JoAnne Blackburn, Nancy Donalds, Sally Ann English, Wan- da Miller, Josephine Hehle, Jean Davis, Martha McDonald, Joan, Roy and Nola Nestor. They had several members in Drama Club. 4-H, F. F. A., B. G. B„ All-Letter Club, Track and the four members elect- ed to the National Honor Society were: Jack Gable, JoAnne Blackburn, Sally Ann English, and Effie Jane Pennington. The lass placed second in the class basketball tournament this year. The Senior year started with an en- rollment of 72, but decreased to 66 graduates. This was the most exciting year of all. The class rings were ordered in the Junior year, but we still had to order calling cards, large and small pictures, and graduation announcements.. Most of the boys, by this time, had served three or four years in sports and service sweaters were given to Jack Gable, Jack Rhoades, Bob Barton, Pete Ketterman, and Paul Eye. Other boys out for football and basket- ball were William Sturms, Dick Macey, Charles Kyer, Otis Fansler, Kenneth Ho- vatter, Donnie Poling, and Billy Wing- field. Those in the various organizations were: Hi-Y, Bob Barton, Jack Gable, Donnie Poling, Dave Gatrell, Paul Eye, Otis Fansler, Charles Kyer, Kenneth Myers, Sonny Ours, Jack Rhoades, Fred Simmons, Billy Wingfield, Kenneth Ho- vatter; Tri-Hi-Y, Sally Ann English, Su- san Vachon, JoAnne Blackburn, Mary Anna Gilmore, Ruth Mullenax, Patty Goff, Winnie Plum, Effie Jane Penning- ton, Mary McVicker, Dolly Shahan; Drama Club, Sally Ann English, Susan Vachon; Glee Club, Sally Ann English, JoAnne Blackburn, Wanda Miller, Jose- phine Hehle, Mary Anna Gilmore, Ruth Mullenax, Patty Goff, Dave Gatrell, Martha McDonald, Mary Lou Carr, Nancy Donalds, Mary McVicker; Na- tional Honor Society, Jack Gable, Jo- Anne Blackburn, Sally Ann English, Ef- fie Jane Pennington, Susan Vachon, Mary McVicker, Dave Gatrell, Orlen Eye, Billy Wingfield, Margaret Barb, Dick Macey, Malora Knotts, Donnie Pol- ing, Mary Anna Gilmore, Patty Goff; 4-H, Sally Ann English, Josenhine Hehle, Susan Vachon, Margaret Ellen Barb, Wanda Miller, Jack Gable, Dolly Sha- han, Sonny Ours; B. G. B., Sally Ann English, Mary Lou Carr, JoAnne Black- burn, Winnie Plum, Mary Anna Gilmore, Nancy Donalds. Unlike former years the class of ’49 voted to change the order of graduation. Instead of the usual number of speeches, only three were given and the rest of the program was filled in with music. Those ranking highest in the class were: Vale- dictorian. JoAnne Blackburn; Salutatori- am Wanda Miller, Mary Anna Gilmore, Susan Vachon, Malora Knotts, Jack Gable, Verney Kellar, Sally Ann Eng- lish, and Josephine Hehle. Graduation was May 26, 1949, and so ends our four year journey.
