The Juniors contributed much to the football squad with Troy Carr, Bob Phillips, Jim Constable, Kenny Hedrick, Dick Higgs, Jim Jones, Dewey Purnell, Harold Sponsugle, and Don Gilmore, all being out for practice. On the basketball team were Garvey Gilmore, Don Roy, Don Gilmore, and Kenneth Keller. Dick Higgs, Margaret Felton, Phyllis Ours, and Bill Ramsey were chosen for the National Honor Society this year. The Sophomores have had many hon- ors bestowed upon them in two years of high school life. In January, 1945, the Soph- omores won the Scrap Drive, repeating honors won in its two years of Junior High. In athletics the class can hardly be excelled. The football roster included sopho- mores Bernard Phillips, Paul Dusty” Nestor, Millard Hilliard, Louis Phillips, Kenneth Arbogast, Eddie Powers, Kelly Day and Manager Waitman Collins. On the basketball team we find Bernard Phillips, Lewis “Essie Roy, John Blackburn, Paul “Dusty Nestor, and Manager Waitman Collins. In brain as well as brawn, sophomores excel. Upper ten students are: Audrey Harper, Verla Lipscomb, Merl Lipscomb, Billy Baer, Louise Froman, Eddie Powers, Joanna Felton, Vernie Cox, Wanda Miller, Joan White and Jim Shrout. 20 FRESHMEN President ...................................................JACK GABLE Vice President ................................... HOMER BROOKS Red, white, and blue were the colors that symbolized a small but patriotic group of Seventh Graders in Parsons High School in 1943-44. Sometimes dubbed ‘green but growing', they lived up to the growing part, and took their places in the annals of Parsons High School. They handed in as their candidates for the Hall of Fame their officers, their Honor Roll members, their athletes, their club members, and the unnamed heroes who worked so faithfully in every undertaking of the class. Freshmen have contributed greatly to an excellent Junior High basketball team. Members were: Jack Gable, Pete Ketterman, Milton Arnold, Jack Gilmore, Bob Bar- ton, Jack Rhodes, Ford Barr, and Sonny Ours. The team followed a successful season with seven wins against three losses. The tournament for Junior High was held at Daily, March 4 and 5. Jack Gilmore and Jack Gable played as substitutes for the reg- ular high team.
