SPRADLfN blasts into the Pittsburg line Thoughts on this year ' s football season The football year of 1979 was a very gratifying experience to me, the assistant coaches and also the players in many ways. It was also one of pain and frustration for us at times. The high point of the campaign was the way our team overcame adversity and held together in some very trying circumstances. This action won our team the respect of our opponents and a great deal of self-respect and pri4e for ourselves. Our team was a young team, and it was a good feeling to see these young men mature as football players. We held together and improved and gave, at times, the 110% it takes to win and be winners. Our team won the Labette County Bowl this year. It was a victory that brolce a losing string for us, and it was a total team effort. We also defeated a state bound team and blemished their perfect record, the final game of the year. These victories were well deserved by a group of very hard working young men. Leadership plays a great part In sports and our football team was led by a group of hard working seniors. These young men gave a great deal to our team this year. They were Mark Allen, l like Bolander, Tony Encarnacion, John Kerr, Raymond Screws, and Joe Woodworth. This season also had two new coaches on our staff, Gary Billionis, and Riley Cartwright along with our standby Harley Turner. These men gave hardwork, good leadership, and enthusiasm to our program. All in all I feel this season has laid the foundation for a better season next year and a fine football program. Thank you for the support you gave the team this season. We all appreciated it greatly. Wrestling This season the Parsons High School wrestlers grappled their way along and advanced seven of twelve to the Sub-State tournament. The team was extremely young with a great majority being underclassmen or freshmen. Inconsis- tency plagued the team throughout most of the season, but as time and each wrestler progressed the performance improved, and by the end of the season the team and some individuals managed some upset victories. Several things highlighted the season to make it productive and enjoyable but the phrase best describing the wrestling team is Wait ' til next year. BYNUtVI is in control. R.
