Newspapers throughout the state paid tribute to Coach johnson saying that he had lifted basketball to high success at Parsons, making the Vikings not only the te am to beat in the Southeast Kansas League, but a state power as Well. Coach johnson's last season here proved to be an outstanding one as the Vikings com - pleted the regular season With 16 Wins and only2 losses. lt was a season that saw the League trophy returned to Parsons. Coach johnson picked up the coaching reins at PHS at the start of the l948-49 basketball season. He installed his brand of basketball with outstanding success. The fast break, run and shoot offense and a sticking full court press was just emerg- ing on the basketball scene, but johnson had the system perfected. Parsons has Won l0 League champion- ships under Coach johnson. Of the five other years he has finished in second place four times and dropped to third once.
