Therefore, Parsons College has so arranged its dramatic department that prospective teachers may enter courses to train them to organize that particular activity in the high schools. The course in Literary Interpretation trains students to make original cuttings from plays, short stories and poetry, a library of such cuttings is started by each student. Training in th judging of declamatory contests, based upon the scale offered by the Iowa Association of Forensic Activities, is given. Students who show aptitude are sent to judge actual contests in nearby schools, This year Helene Gaumer, Mary Moodhead, Phyllis Bradshaw, Paul Pickett, Willard Pedrick and Ernest Nehre were allowed to represent the school at such contests. Before a student was sent to judge he was taught to recognize specific needs and difficultiees in each type of declamatory work, humor, dramatic, and oratory. He was trained to give accurate and constructive suggestions and remedies.
