YParca11s - Coach Glenn Devine ' C2191-C100Yg.FT0lf9A15jMl1W V 5,5 -I wine In Captain Bob Parcells, Parsons had one of the best captains in its history, so Glenn Devine says. When Warren and Geneva both were injured, Bob carried the ball as well as ran interference. His drop kicking was his strongst point. Succeding him is John Hornish, an old team mate of Bob's in high school. John has played tackle for three years at Parsons. For their coach, John and Bob have had Glenn Devine who, in the opinion of Fairfield fans and the Parsons alumni, is the best coach that has ever molded Wildcat elevens. In the five years that he has been here he has put out championship teams in every branch of sports that he has coached. In football he has won two champion- ships and tied for one. When is was announced at the football banquet that he would be here five years more, the whole room full of fans and players stood up and burst into applause. The 16 men num er un y who finally did get their letters had to work hard for them. Out of nine line men, eight received their awards for the first time. The first game, with Still, the Wildcats won when they trammeled on their op- ponents 14-0 on a muddy field. With Central, the next opponent, the line appeared weak in stopping short on-side plays, but regained prestige when their offense paved the way for a 7-0 win. The next week the squad went to Penn. The game was very ragged and frequently Penn plowed clear to the five-yard line before they were stopped. A long pass was converted into a touchdown, duplicating the Central score. h d b d case of stage fright After the first five minutes, in which At Coe, the team a a a - Coe scored, the game was on even terms. Parsons lost 10-0. Our homecoming game with a fine day, large crowd and lots of pep, resulted in a tie, 7-7. Then Parsons took 3 crippled team to play Des Moines U. Des Moines scored in the first five minutes and the ended the half with a seven point lead. Parsons hit her stride in the third quarter and plunged the ball over. As the goal was missed it took a drop kick in the final quarter to win, 9-7. State Teachers met the Parsons team when the Wildcats were in full swing. Though the Teachers scored first, the Wildcats would not be denied and clinched the conference title, 20-7. On Turkey Day, at Wesleyan, Parsons marched to a 26-13 victory and a perfect conference record. Ein hty mm
