Prineipal's Welcome As we go into our l958-59 school term I wish to express my very sin- cere welcome to each individual within our school. Our past two years as an operating school have been a real pleasant and rewarding experience for me. The way our students have accepted and fulfilled their responsibilities, the way our teachers have constantly been stretching themselves toward even better teaching, and the manner in which our general staff has per- formed keeps my faith in people very much alive. Senior Activities Center on Graduation Many class social events and pro- jects for this school year have al- ready been scheduled. As each year progresses traditions and pat- terns are gradually being built up. This year is highlighted by the fact that the class of l959 will be the first to graduate from Parsippany High School. Senior activities began last March with the organization of the Legend, which will be printed next March. One of the biggest Senior projects is the selection of their class gift to the school. lt is hoped that this will be a service to the school rather than something of monetary value. Senior Class President Al Longo. along with his fellow officers, Helaine Kallen, Marianne Lazarcheck, and janet Eckstein, feel that graduation activities should be underway by spring. Graduation Week will open with the Senior Prom on June 5th and will be climaxed with graduation ceremonies on june l5th. Events such as a Senior picnic or banquet are being discussed. Junior class officers Charlie Brooks, Dave Ober, Carole Suta, and lo-Ann Zelenka have announced that their project will be the editing and publishing of Smoke Signal , the literary magazine. As spring comes they will work with the Seniors in planning the junior-Senior Prom, Next February they will undertake the publishing of the Legend Annual. Orientation and reception of in- coming freshmen will be done by the class of l96l. ln addition to this they will revise and distribute the school handbook. These pro- jects will be handled by the Sopho- more Class and their ofhcersg Robert Wighton, Maureen Dooley, Diane Gallo, and Ellen Rutenberg. Legend to Sponsor Fund Raising Dance Sands of Time will initiate the social life of P.H.S. This dance, sponsored by the Legend staff, will be held September l9, l958 in the high school gym. Starting at 7:30 it will continue until ll:30. On one side of the gym the deco- rations will consist of an old-fash- ioned design of chandeliers and pil- lars. The other half, in modern design, will be mobiles hanging from the ceiling and other similar designs. Dances, representing different eras of time, will supply the entertain- ment for the night. Seniors will be doing dances, from the old-fash- ioned waltz and charleston, to the modern day jitterbug and rock 'n roll. The guests will dance to the music of the Parsippany High School Dance Band under the baton of Clifford Girard student director. The funds raised by this dance will help to pay for our year book, the Legend . The Legend will consist of inter- esting information about the school, clubs and the graduating class. There will be individual portraits of all underclassmen as well as those of the seniors. There will be a Sum- mer Supplement to cover events happening after March. Included in this will be pictures of the Senior Prom, other dances and sports. The Legend will have I64 pages of printed material including the Summer Supplement. The Senior's Yearbook will have a padded cover- ing, while the underclassmen will have a stid cover. The greater the amount of pro- ceeds raised by the yearbook staff will help defray the amount of the individual yearbook price.
