Speech The Speech Department is under the direction of una K Crippen and furnishes experience in speaking and dramatics to a large number of students A one act play Little Oscar , with an all sophomore cast was presented at the Fall carni val It was also presented at Legion programs 1t Roseglen and Raub A large number of students took part in a oronation Ceremony which was one of the high lights of the carnival The Valiant was our contest number in the One Act Play Festival, and was recommended for entry at the State Contest at Grand Forks Lyle Iverson was selected as the best boy actor Two three act plays were presented during the year, Jane Eyre, by the Senior Class and une Mad by the unior Class Gary Lerberg represented the school in the Legion Oratorical Contest at Williston and Lyle Iverson in the Masonic Contest at Garrison Five contestants were entered in the District Contest at Minot and all were placed Betty Mae Shubert and Lyle Iverson received highly superior ratings which entitled them to represent the District at Grand Forks At the State Contest in Grand Forks Bette Mae Shubert was rated highly superior Declamation It might be noted that this was the only highly superior rating that was given ous section Others given superior ratings were Marlg Scheer and Lyle Iverson Students who represented the school and rtcexved honor ratings Nere Bette Mae Shubert, humorous reading, Bert Steffgnk serious readin ack Sholtz, forensic reading Naomi Myers, verse reading, Gary Ler erg Legion oration Lv e Iverson, Masonic oration ss - vw ' A .
