Deep in thought, after putting away her days work in yearbook class, Amy Tomlinson , wonders what is going to be happening in the next class. A favorite pastime of yearbook students is spending time in the halls and at their lockers as shown here by Tonya McDowell . 4 Yearbook STUDENT LIFE The students are busy during the whole year at PMHS. As the year starts out football, golf and cross country are the sports going on. Also there are the homecoming, club meetings and sometimes field trips. During the winter season there is wrestling, boys’ basketball, volleyball, and indoor track. FBLA is always busy. They have the pageant, money drives, and always field trips whether for fun or competition. The band participates in many competitions. There are K-92 dances and a banquet to celebrate our football team’s state championship. In the spring is tennis, track, baseball, the prom, spring fever, spring break, and last of all graduation. WHEW — Student activities are FOREVER BLUE ... What a time we have the whole year through. SQ Sexe AN1Ta HAAAHOSA mac . GA SS = ar, Division Student Life 5 6 Student Life Dances Class rings have been a tradition for many, many years. When they first started having class rings, the students were sized for their rings and although the boys’ rings were bigger than the girls’ rings, they were alike. As years have passed and everything has advanced so have class rings. Now a student can order whatever he or she wants on their ring, whatever color of stone is wanted. Every year Parry McCluer has a Ring Dance and it is always a big success. All the juniors show up to collect their rings and it is a very exciting time for the junior class, but even the dances have changed throughout the years. They use to be very dressy. There was a ceremony to get each ring, but now it is a very relaxed dance and everyone wears jeans. This year the Class of 1989 received their rings on Friday October 2nd. Everyone tried to get their rings locked by the end of the night. This means turned 89 times to symbolize their graduation year. This is a brand new tradition. The question is “‘What will they come up with next?” After receiving her class ring Shannon Garrett asked Tim Deyo to turn it. Profiling. | 8 Ugly Man The guys walk in as normal as to be expected, But when they walk out everyone is somehow affected. They carry in with them lipsticks, bikinis, and mascara, And all they carry out are their transformed bodies and faces like Farrah. A.W. Wilhelm prepares to give the judges a score. As they each stroll out onto the gym floor They perform some deeds which no one can ignore. They dance, they strip, they show what they ve got. Then the questions are asked and it really gets hot. Before too long the moment arrives and the new Mr. Ugly Man receives his prize. It’s a night of jokes and a night of laughter. You see, at PMHS fun is all we're after. Drace Clevenger was crowned Mr. Ugly Man 1987. Our 1987 Ugly Man Contest Winner gives us his “‘innocent’’ look. Kevin Bradley meditating during the last few minutes before the contest begins. Life would be dull! If something good or bad happened to you, it would not affect you. Showing his pride, John Veal displays a cake he made in the occupational food class at Vo-Tech. Camera. 14 Student Life Jobs The people at PMHS are a lot better than other schools because we have more school spirit, better athletes, and the people are more fun to be around. Unlike other schools PMHS seems to have the kind of people that get along better together. We also have a lot of support from our community like no where else. This is why we feel PMHS is the best around and it makes us remember that special people spirit that will make us always be FOREVER BLUE! Some of them study together and some don’t study at all. Most of them study while they are watching television or listening to the radio. Others, however, like to eat while they study. So they end up turning in assignments with their last night’s dinner on them. Things change, though, when it comes time for exams. Unlike most schools, P.M. has three exams a year, not two. In a way that is better because we don’t have to cram as much stuff into each exam. We know that exams will have a big influence on our grades. We study hard and late. Even after High School, the Forever Blue Spirit will help us remember each club and hold the memories close in our hearts. Academic Honors The 1987-88 National Honor Society of Parry McCluer High School is composed of thirty members that maintain at least a 3.0 quarterly average. These members are the sophmores, juniors and seniors. The two sponsors of this year’s National Honor Society are Miss Johanna Ravenhorst and Mrs. Judy Jay. The National Honor Society has participated in many activities this school year. Some of these included a “‘fall’” bloodmobile, a ski trip to Massanutten and they also sponsored an honor roll reception for all the students who made first quarter honor roll. Upcoming events for the National Honor Society include another bloodmobile on April the 18th in the Middle School auditorium. Also in May, new members will tapped and inducted and new officers will be installed. Nervousness overswept me all day. As time passed during the day, I got everything together, my hair fixed and sat and waited and waited. Then when it was almost time to go. By that time, I had my make-up put on. I took off in faded jeans trying to get my dress, shoes and everything else in the car. My parents drove me and helped, although by this time they were nervous too. “What if I trip?” “What if I made a fool of myself?” All kinds of ideas were going through all minds, especially mine. As the pageant itself started, the excitement began to fill all contestants as well as the audience, Everyone in the audience had their favorites picked. Then came the time for the final results. They were: Jody Albritton, 4th runner- up, Stephanie Clevenger, 3rd runner-up, Susan Gilbert, 2nd runner- up, Wendy Moore, 1st runner-up, and Miss PMHS 1988 Tonya McDowell. After being crowned ‘‘Miss PMHS 1988” Tonya McDowell, smiles at the audience, Posing after the pageant is the 1988 Miss PMHS, Tonya McDowell, and the four finalists. Before the “‘big night” started, Tonya McDowell, Wendy Moore, pause a moment in their dressing room for a picture. While in her evening gown, Jinky Garrett, gives the crowd a warm smile. Moments after crowning, Tonya McDowell and Wendy Moore, embrace each other in their state of happiness. In the hall displaying the streetwear are Samantha Williams, Wendy Moore, Karen Rogers, and Susan Gilbert. Miss PMHS Pageant 89 Here are a few senior couples making their debut at their last prom. Many couples are dancing as they have “The Times Of Their Lives.” Senior, Kelly Sorrels, dances with her fiance, Jimmy Stalnaker making the best of her last prom. 90 Junior Senior Prom Looking very happy, senior, Tonya McDowell slow dances with her date, Sean Huffman. While waiting for another song to begin senior, Sherry Stinnett, happily displays her date Chris Higgins. Showing her dancing abilities, senior, Samantha Williams dances with her date Randy Walters. In the line for refreshments are many hungry Juniors and Seniors. Never Say Goodbye From the balcony each couple looked like pairs that were meant to be together. They were put together like a package. A nice fit, perfection ... No one was unhappy, everyone floated around the room. It was definately a night to be remembered. It even seemed to be a magical night. To good to be true. As each couple looked into their dates eyes (during those romantic moments while slow dancing) it could be seen how much enjoyment was taking place by just being at the prom. As tradition was changed, it was made known that it was definately about time. A new place was a must this year. It was so much better than the American Legion, the prom being held in the Sem ballroom. Also, the D.J. was great. A band never turns out good, something always goes wrong, but not this year. The night was perfect. The juniors worked very hard. They raised enough money to do everything they wanted and even had a lot of extras to remember the night by. This year was a total success for the junior-senior prom. The Class of 1989 did an excellent job and this years seniors will always remember how special their prom was and how for once at Parry McCluer tradition changed ... The King and Queen for the Class of 88 is Stacy Zimmerman and Jill Owens. Looking into each others eyes, Junior, Aaron Zdinak and sophomore, Stephanie Clevenger seem to be enjoying the prom. These are many seniors and their dates during the senior presentation. hi i ae a Trying to get some air is Junior, Angie Ramsey, with her date Eric Sylvia. Decorating for this great event are Juniors, Shannon Lineberry and Penny Moore. At the SADD picnic many people are taking advantage of the free food. Junior Senior Prom 91 The Day It was the day that is anticipated by thousands of graduating seniors all over the world, but this year it was the special day for the class of 1988. This special event took place this year on June 17,1988. It was a night of joy and sadness. It was a typical graduation with speeches by valedictorian Darla Bowman and saluatorian David Giese and then the presentation of diplomas by Mr. Wayne Flint. Yet this will be a night treasured by all of those graduating seniors. A night they will remember for a long time. y aw Taking time out from an exciting With graduation near, Senior evening are Sonya Fox and Kelly Sorrels seems delighted. So many times we‘ve wondered Just what the future will hold Because we all know that this Lonely world can be so cold See, we've had our lost dreams And had our broken hearts Sometimes we've felt as though Our lives had been torn apart We’ve been through all of the pain And we've been through all the sorrow Sometimes we were wishing That there wouldn‘t even be a tommorrow But the memories we will never forget We’ve shaped in the last four years Sometimes we shaped them in laughter Sometimes we shaped them in tears We will miss our friends the most — We’re already drifting apart —- We must go our separate ways And make a brand new start We know we’ve all got to try To make our dreams come true Give ourselves a chance, That's all we can ever do.
