ish bbls i ‘ ; ’ ‘ 1 He athe eo The Ser iT ni6r r Class. of eet Tapestry My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue An everlasting vision of the everchanging view A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold Once amid the soft silver sadness in the sky There came a man of fortune, a drifter passing by He wore a torn and tattered cloth around his leathered hide And a coat of many colors, yellow—green on either side He moved with some uncertainty, as if he didn’t know Just what he was there for, or where he ought to go Once he reached for something golden hanging from a tree And his hand came down empty Soon within my tapestry along the rutted road He sat down on ariver rock and turned into a toad It seemed that he had fallen into someone’s wicked spell And I wept to see him suffer, though I didn’t know him well As I watched in sorrow, there suddenly appeared A figure gray and ghostly beneath a flowing beard In times of deepest darkness, I’ve seen him dressed in black Now my tapestry’s unravelling; he’s come to take me back He’s come to take me back HAT ROA eetthe Activities Features Athletics Classes. There are, of course, people who start the year on the staff and then end up doing no work. The people who did work have done an amazing and enormous job. We all started the year knowing nothing about doing a yearbook, but through trial and error, and many headaches — we hope we have accomplished what we set forth to do. We hope this yearbook will be the most exciting yearbook ever published at PMHS: I would like to thank all those people who really put out the effort to raise money, meet dead- lines, and get this yearbook published. I hope that this yearbook will be the one remembered, and referred to, for years to come. William T. Its purposes are: To provide students the opportunity for self-government and participation in decisions affecting their interests and welfare; To promote throughout the school a high standard of honesty, responsi- bility and courtesy; To encourage an atmosphere of friendliness, helpfulness and mutual respect be- tween the students and teachers; To develop good citizens and leadership through the experience in self-government; To coordinate and regulate student activities. The SCA works hard to achieve the set goals. Some of these goals are: to make the magazine drive a successful one, attend district and state conventions, to take part in state wide projects such as the glass recycling project. The council is also looking into sponsoring a foreign exchange student. feet € Jeff accepts the 2¢ check for the magazine drive. Hikers HP The SCA keeps us posted. 20 The BETA CLUB is a leadership-service organization with membership limited to those who have a 3.0 grade average in their subjects. Other activities have included helping with the opening of Glen Maury Park in September and spon- soring the Thanksgiving food drive. The FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA was organized to help students participate as individuals in group endeavors and projects under the guidance of representatives of education, busi- ness, and professions. The FBLA also travels to state and national leadership conferences as well as to District workshops and training sessions, visits to other local chapters and to business and industrial enterprises. 23 The FRENCH CLUB con- sists of all students interested in promoting and creating interest in French. Lt ri a. a BERN! it i eT | Pro The STUDENTS ASSOCIATED FOR SERVICE is a non-profit organization which consists of twenty selected members. The main objective of the club is to assist the faculty and student body in any way possible beneficial to the school. The SAS keeps the students informed of upcoming events through the Library bulletin board. The club entered a float in the Christmas parade and erected an outdoor Christmas tree on the roof of the school. “What’s that growing out of the roof?” The PEP CLUB is an organization which promotes school spirit. Some of the projects of the club are: taking buses to the away ballgames, making signs to support the teams, and generating good sports- manship. The FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA is an organization of girls studying home economics in the junior and senior high schools of the United States. Any student enrolled in home economics may be a member. The purpose is to help individuals improve personal, family, and community living. The VISTA is the school newspaper. It is not just another extra-curricular activity. It is a vital instru- ment to protect the freedoms of a democratic government. Representative government depends on the diligent and effective operation of independent news media as well as an educated citizenry with an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the press. The VISTA has been on an experimental basis this year but will be a real newspaper in future years. The HI-Y is actually the Y.M.C.A. on a high school level. It is a fellowship of boys and girls committed to a Christian purpose. The purpose of the club is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the home, the community, and the school the high standards of Christian character. 31 The LIBRARY CLUB was organized to help students learn the functions of the high school library and to become aware of the other library services available in this area. To meet these objectives the Club has had work sessions in the Library where they repaired books, checked shelves, etc. The club has also taken field trips this year. The sponsor was Miss Ravenhorst. Karen Lee Byers Cornelia Aleen Carter Constance Byles For the Class of ’72, the past five years have held a special kind of closeness. We began as Rats in ’67, submitting to the wishes of the Seniors. Soon our endless task of raising money began. We spon- sored ‘Spring Fever’ and ‘Sadie Haw- kins’ Dances and staged a very success- ful bazaar. Despite endless problems and disagreements, all of our hard work paid off when ‘A Time For Us’ became a reality. Our Senior year was a special one. Under the direction of Coach Ward, we held the only ‘Candidates Day’ in our area and made an eventful trip to Rich- mond. During Spirit Week, we were chosen the most spirited class in the school. As Robin and Martha led us on our big day, we realized that things would never be as the past five years were, but we would ‘“‘have these mo- ments to remember’. Terry displays her school spirit during spirit week.
