SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY With the rain pouring down in a steady beat, I sat there in Union Station when a mist began to enclose my brain slowly. My thoughts kept wandering back to the reunion-banquet and cele- bration of the Class of '55. Yes, it seems like a decade has passed since my Parry McCluer days--days of excitement and youth, Iremember my first glimpse of my dearest friend, Celia Ann Simmons. It was no surprise tome to find her a happily married housewife and the mother of four darling children. And how could I forget Barbara Dixon? Believe me, it was quite a shock to find that she is now Dean of Madison College, Of course, being one of a family of Madison graduates, Barbara could have no other destiny. Fate played its role for these two, but what of others in the Class of '55? Wouldn't you expecta musical career for ElstéLeéé Elliott? Elsie is now head nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Ironical, isn't it? Maxine Cole and Marian Giroux, who sat only a few feet from my chair at the banquet, were deep in conversation. While Marian is-a model and studying dramatics at night, Maxine has married and is very interested in the insurance business, N Peggy and Bobby Withers stopped to ¢onverse with me for a time and neither of them has changed in the least. You have heard ofthe famous.» Withers Dancing School, headed by my two classmates, Speaking of brother-sister teams, Margaret and William Cash have a comedy act rated with that of the famous. Martin and Lewis. William Carter, with his sister Judy as sec- retary, now owns a huge modern drugstore where they sell anything from Buicks to toothbrushes, Bobby Albertoliand Linda Sandidge have married and Bobby's occupation is a traveling sales - man; Linda works part time at a beauty parlor while Bobby is away. Toby Gonner Hartless who was married in the Senior year is stillthappily married and loves her career as a housewife. Remember how we all admired Jeanette Tyler's diamond? You guessed it--Jeanette is married and has quite a time keeping the children in line, — Bee ae At last someoné has solved the problem of making shopping trips to Lynchburg and Roanoke, for Barbara Rice, Betty Sanderson, Dorothy Spence, and Irene Beverley have recently opened a specialty shop whichcarrieés the latest fashions. Jane Sandidge and)Athena Flint are models for the shop, and it is rumored that a representative from Hollywood's. Modeling Agency has his eye on these two, — s : 2 io Sk Others inthe Class of '55 have roamed to distant states and even to foreign countries, Big, quiet Marion Ramsey is a lumberjack somewhere in northern Canada. At this point I must tell you about the career of Joyce Hilliard, We all expected great things of Joyce, and our expecta- tions came true, for Joyce is now a professor of music at Oxford ‘University, Reggie Berry, Hunter Falls, and Billy Wheeler are making a career ofthe Air Force. These men are a pride to the nation. Tex Campbell is now a pitcher for Cleveland and is married to a MGM script girl. Ralph Tomlin and David Loughhead are All-Americans. Yes, many of my graduating class have become famous, S Mg Barnum and Bailey's circus was a great attraction to some ofmy class, Donald Burch be- camea lion tamer; Everette Entsminger,a trapeze performer; atid Billy Rice is master of cere- monies, These boys are:the right-hand men for Clyde Beatty. Big Jim Glass is known by movie goers as Rock Brandoya great lover, while Benny Glass is usually a wild west cowboy. And, who directs these boys at Warner's Studio? It is none other than Carrell Patterson. Kenneth Miller writes many novels on which their movies are based, ; - S Now, back-to the home town, Betty Moran's little boy is alwaySs-talking of going to V.M, I, --a fine ambition, Betty is a member of Buena Vista's ScHool Board, Peggy Holt is also in- tereste d in schoolactivities since she teaches seventh grade, ‘By therway, Parry McCluer isone of the most modern and beautiful schools in the state. Shirley Burch, Jean Hamilton, and Char- lotte Mace are gym instructors: in the school; and Mildred Taylor, “our girl most likely to suc- ceed,''is married to the mayor of Buena Vista. Douglas Ayres and Milton Brantley are owners of a prosperous motel businéss; Jimmy Cox and Henry Lewis are members of Buena Vista's council, As you might expect, Jimmie Johnson now owns Hill-Top Service Station. Elwood Cash, Bobby Gardner, and Asa Shifflett are co-owners of Buena Vista's huge parking lot. You see Buena Vista has grown intoa rather large city with a population of 100,000 citizens, It is still a very beautiful town and very prosperous. The tourist business is especially good since so many tourists wish to see Sky Line Drive and the beautiful modern city of Buena Vista, It was a thrilling experience to see my graduating class once again. Maybe if I smile the ache in my heart will leave--yes, smile as I still hear the whistle of the train that brings me back to my husband and children and to my job as reporter for the Alexandria Gazette. I shall never forget that sad and yet happy reunion of the beloved Class of '55. --Eleanor Carter
