CLASS Many years had passed since I had been in the halls of dear old Parry McCluer, I had attended a P T. A. meeting on this particular Thursday--my first such visit since returning to Buena Vista. In the midst of the program, a feeling of nostalgia suddenly swept over me, and I left the auditorium quietly, I wandered aimlessly down the corridor, The first door to attract my tearful eye was the one which led to Mr, Tenney'‘s office. It was ajar, so I wandered in. I closed the door behind me, after turning on a light over his desk, The sounds from the auditorium faded away.On the desk was a gigantic crystal ball, and beside it, a list of students whose absences had been checked through gazing into its depths, With memories of my own school days strong within me, I gazed into the ball. Suddenly, a figure rose to the surface, It was Clarence Argenbright, Remember how he used to sing in Miss Glass's government class? I learned from a card which he held in his hand that he has now taken over Eddie Arnold's TV program, As he faded away Doris Argenbright appeared, She had always had great artistic ability, and the card which she held in her hand informed me that her work was now being exhibited in New York City. She was followed by Jessie Austin in the ball, Jessie, as everyone expected, is now doing very well with James Lee and Sons', She is the first woman supervisor of the company. Next came golden-voiced Betty Bates, who is now the leading singer of the Metropolitan Opera, Also an entertainment star, I soon learned, is Billy Cash, He is now starring as a great lover on Broadway, He was on his knees before a beautiful actress in the crystal ball, In amoment Carlyle Cash appeared, Since leaving Parry McCluer, Carlyle has made all-American and become an important figure in the sporting world, Loretta Chittum, I learned, is still studying for her master's degree in Menology at W L. Billy Coffee is still in Buena Vista, He is now operating the largest skating rink in Virginia. It is some- what better than the one he worked at during his senior year, Doris Coleman is now house mother at the Beta House at W, L, Barbara Jean Decker really used her head when she went to the co-ed school at Louisville, Kentucky, for she has realized two of her greatest goals in life, Bobby Falls was recently elected Mr. Lover Boy of 1964, It certainly came as no surprise to all who knew him,

PROPHECY Berlin Fitzgerald is now the money man in Texas. He owns the largest cattle ranch there, Shirley Giroux is at present the secretary to the governor of Virginia, It is amazing that one of our quiet little girls went so far. Dixie Glass, I learned from Mr. Tenney's crystal, has taken over her mother's job in the principal's office. It must seem strange to the students to see her moving slowly up the hall after watching her mother, who was always in a hurry, Jean Glass is now teaching chemistry at V. P. 1. Remember the inter- est she had in that particular school during her senior year? And remember that brilliant Allan Graham, who was the top student of the class? Everyone thought he would become a Latin professor, but, instead, his interest turned toward girls--and Jefferies‘ Variety Store. Hilda Hall has been in many beauty contests since she left high school, and recently she won the Mrs, America title. Ecker Hamilton is now head coach at V. M. I. Remember his receiving the Good Sportsmanship Award during his senior year? Wayne Hartless is now famous for his wrestling, Eddie Hostetter and Charles Moran are now the new owners of Nuckels Service Station in Buena Vista. Jimmy Lynn has followed in his father's footsteps. He is head clerk at the U, S, Post Office in Baltimore, Maryland. Paul Mohler, after ten years of keeping his drug store dates with Janice Green, is now co-owner with her of the Corner Drug. Charles Moore appeared in the crystal driving his own Packard for the Buena Vista Flower Shop which he now owns, Roberta Morrey and Loretta Painter are head nurses at the Buena Vista Hospital, Floyd Schad has organized a lonely hearts club in Charlottsville. He had so much trouble keeping a girl dur- ing his high school career that he decided to help others find their mates, Phyllis Sizer has taken Betty Jo's place atthe Valley Store, As the crystal suddenly began to darken, I learned that Freddie Stinnett is now an outstanding pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The last figure to appear was Harold Watts. Harold has a very important job; he is chauffeur to the President of the United States, Remember how I used to drive my daddy's GMC truck?I am now one of the owners of the company, but I have time, and reason, to attend P, T, A, meetings now.I shall never forget my first such meeting.
