A. meeting on this particular Thursday--my first such visit since returning to Buena Vista. In the midst of the program, a feeling of nostalgia suddenly swept over me, and I left the auditorium quietly, I wandered aimlessly down the corridor, The first door to attract my tearful eye was the one which led to Mr, Tenney'‘s office. It was ajar, so I wandered in. I closed the door behind me, after turning on a light over his desk, The sounds from the auditorium faded away.On the desk was a gigantic crystal ball, and beside it, a list of students whose absences had been checked through gazing into its depths, With memories of my own school days strong within me, I gazed into the ball. Suddenly, a figure rose to the surface, It was Clarence Argenbright, Remember how he used to sing in Miss Glass's government class? I learned from a card which he held in his hand that he has now taken over Eddie Arnold's TV program, As he faded away Doris Argenbright appeared, She had always had great artistic ability, and the card which she held in her hand informed me that her work was now being exhibited in New York City. She was followed by Jessie Austin in the ball, Jessie, as everyone expected, is now doing very well with James Lee and Sons', She is the first woman supervisor of the company. Next came golden-voiced Betty Bates, who is now the leading singer of the Metropolitan Opera, Also an entertainment star, I soon learned, is Billy Cash, He is now starring as a great lover on Broadway, He was on his knees before a beautiful actress in the crystal ball, In amoment Carlyle Cash appeared, Since leaving Parry McCluer, Carlyle has made all-American and become an important figure in the sporting world, Loretta Chittum, I learned, is still studying for her master's degree in Menology at W L. Billy Coffee is still in Buena Vista, He is now operating the largest skating rink in Virginia. It is some- what better than the one he worked at during his senior year, Doris Coleman is now house mother at the Beta House at W, L, Barbara Jean Decker really used her head when she went to the co-ed school at Louisville, Kentucky, for she has realized two of her greatest goals in life, Bobby Falls was recently elected Mr. Lover Boy of 1964, It certainly came as no surprise to all who knew him, PROPHECY Berlin Fitzgerald is now the money man in Texas. He owns the largest cattle ranch there, Shirley Giroux is at present the secretary to the governor of Virginia, It is amazing that one of our quiet little girls went so far. Dixie Glass, I learned from Mr. Tenney's crystal, has taken over her mother's job in the principal's office. It must seem strange to the students to see her moving slowly up the hall after watching her mother, who was always in a hurry, Jean Glass is now teaching chemistry at V. P. 1. Remember the inter- est she had in that particular school during her senior year? And remember that brilliant Allan Graham, who was the top student of the class? Everyone thought he would become a Latin professor, but, instead, his interest turned toward girls--and Jefferies‘ Variety Store. Hilda Hall has been in many beauty contests since she left high school, and recently she won the Mrs, America title. Ecker Hamilton is now head coach at V. M. I. Remember his receiving the Good Sportsmanship Award during his senior year? Wayne Hartless is now famous for his wrestling, Eddie Hostetter and Charles Moran are now the new owners of Nuckels Service Station in Buena Vista. Jimmy Lynn has followed in his father's footsteps. He is head clerk at the U, S, Post Office in Baltimore, Maryland. Paul Mohler, after ten years of keeping his drug store dates with Janice Green, is now co-owner with her of the Corner Drug. Charles Moore appeared in the crystal driving his own Packard for the Buena Vista Flower Shop which he now owns, Roberta Morrey and Loretta Painter are head nurses at the Buena Vista Hospital, Floyd Schad has organized a lonely hearts club in Charlottsville. He had so much trouble keeping a girl dur- ing his high school career that he decided to help others find their mates, Phyllis Sizer has taken Betty Jo's place atthe Valley Store, As the crystal suddenly began to darken, I learned that Freddie Stinnett is now an outstanding pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The last figure to appear was Harold Watts. Harold has a very important job; he is chauffeur to the President of the United States, Remember how I used to drive my daddy's GMC truck?I am now one of the owners of the company, but I have time, and reason, to attend P, T, A, meetings now.I shall never forget my first such meeting. OFFICERS President -------------------- Carlyle Cash Vice-President ------------- Charles Moore Secretary -Treasurer -------- Eddie Hostetter “Fighting Blues” End Season With 8 to 0 Win Over Lexington The “Fighting Blues” of Parry McCluer High School ended the 1958 football season in a blaze of glory when they downed their traditional rivals from Lexington by a score of 8 to 0 before a large crowd on the local field last Fri- day. The “Blues” broke a scoreless deadlock in the third period when Carlyle Cash blocked Kenneth Miley’s punt in the Lexington end zone and Cash and Ecker Hamil- ton tackled Miley as he tried in vain to run the ball out. A safe- ty was scored and Buena Vista led 2 to 0. A few moments later Cash re- peated.the blocking act, this time on the Lexington forty. Edd ie Hos- tetter picked up the loose ball on the thirty-five and aided by a block from Carlyle raced thirty- five yards for a touchdown. The extra point was no good and the “Blues” led 8 to 0. Buena Vista threatened to score on two other occasions, both com- ing after Red Moore had made magnificent catches of long pas- ses thrown by Carlyle Cash on an end-around play. Each time Moore carried to the Lexington five-yard line, the first play cov- ering 45 yards and the second, 56 yards. On the first occasion, a five-yard penalty with Buena Vista on the one prevented a score. The: next time the “Blues” ap- proached pay dirt, the heavy Lex- ington line, led by the superb play of Co-Capt. John Mutispaugh simply rose up and held for downs. Mutispaugh, who alternat- ed between tackle and fullback, was a tower of strength for the “Scarlet Hurricane’ and except for his stellar play the score would undoubtedly have been high- er. Buena Vista led in first downs, 10 to 8, and had a wide margin in ground gained. Lexington did not get past the Buena Vista thirty-yard line and for the most part were held in their own ter- ritory. This was the second year in a row in which the “Fighting Blues” have defeated Lexington, both times by shut-outs. Wendell Steele and Kenneth Miley were constant threats for Lexington, but a very tight and of them to break away. Lexing- ton played without the services of Charlie and Phillip Hamric, who had-taken gamma globulin shots when their younger brother was alert defense did not allow either stricken with polio. The entire “Blues” team played heads-up ball, and the defensive work of Carlyle Cash ,Ecker Ham- ilton, Bobby Falls, and Bruce | Royer was outstanding. Cash was used twice on the end-around pass play, the only times the play was used this season, and he has a perfect passing record, two for, two. If might easily have been one for two, however, except for the. very spectacular catch Red Moore made on the first pass. He caught it at top speed, just bare-| ball. The effort caused him t stumble and fall on the five-yar line before he could recover hiy balance, and prevented a score Hostetter’s punting kept the bal away from Steele, the shifty “Hurricane” safety man, but hy got good distance on all of hi kicks even then. ly getting his finger tips on 4 so im rece me THE PARRIMAC played their last football game : for P.
