THE SOPHOMORE CLASS VOYAGE I ' It was on the twentyfninth day of August, 1928, a calm, peaceful alutumn '4 g Q ff- i day, that the good ship Parnassus High School stood at anchor at the wharf of a new ' ll, 5 school year. It was the same old ship that had carried many passengers to a safe ' Q harbor in the Land of Great Wisdom. This day, however, many people gazed upon Q13 X! it with wonder as they watched ninetyfseven girls and boys step aboard. It was 'fl 'AQQ rumored that we, the passengers, were to sail over new waters in search of the Founf iff' tain of Perfect Learning. 'fjrl l . ,ll ll We were ver enthusiastic as we steamed away from the wharf, actually em' ff A, ,IJ Y H ' I - 6, hid! barked for a four years cruise on our voyage of High School Life. We were young .24 and very sociable, so it did not take us long to become acquainted. Of course we -14 had to have some one to guide us, so we chose the following:-Pilot, Chester Cooper, Captain, Helen Artmang Stewardess, Helen Bergg Porter, Eleanor Morgan. We chose the red peony as the class flower, the colors, red and white, and the motto, Numquam retrorsumw- Never Turn Back. During the Hrst year of our voyage, we had quite a few representatives in the operetta, on the Graredion Staff, on the Tatler Staff, in the Glee Club, and orchestra, and in other organizations. Some of the girls and boys were fortunate enough to make the varsity basketball teams. We sailed our Freshman Sea and received our checks of identification from the purser for our Sophomore Sea, almost before we knew it. We had to reorganize our class, so we elected Chester Cooper as pilot, Raymond Hiteshue as captain, joe Koleva as steward, and George Peters as porter. By this time, there were various cases of seasickness and some were tempted to give up biology and geometry, and even a ifew activities. Several decided to become Clara Bows and john Cvilberts and as a result entertained the passengers with good plays. Thus far our voyage has been wonderful as we have many souvenirs from every port. Other circumstances which have added to the pleasure of our journey are the facts that we have faced no gales which we were not able to ride out, and that we have secured the necessary passports at the entrance of each new sea. We are looking forward to the large ocean ahead, with but one thought in our minds, Numquam retrorsumn- Never Turn Back. -RAYMOND HITESHUE. 44 gl- vfaff i ' fa f Q -X l
