General science students worked at their own pace in individualized instruction. General science consisted of a review of basic fundamen- tals of fact and experimentation. Biology offered students a chance to dissect frogs, worms, and fish. They also learned how to use microscopes, centrifuges, and other laboratory instruments. Chemistry students studied the basic concepts of atomic structure. Lab experiments, designed to help students un- derstand better, often ended with burnt fingers and the pungent smell of hydrogen sulfide. Advanced Biology and Advanced Chemistry classes participated in more detailed studies of life and environment.
