Five teams in a wide range of sports made up the girls varsity sports pro- gram this season. Girls' participation at an interschool varsity level is a rela- tively new addition to West. The swim team was just introduced this season, while the other four sports teams be- gan their second year. The first team which played this year was the field hockey team. Coached by Mrs. Adams, the girls battled the more experienced, older teams in the league to a 1-5-1 season. The basketball team had a more successful season. Talent includ- ing seniors Kris Roush, Linda Kinnard, and Cindy Sanders, as well as all of the' other fine members, together with Miss Kelleher's able coaching culmi- nated in an outstanding 7-3 season. Spring brought three more sports: vol- leyball - coached by Mrs. Adams, tennis. a fine team with outstanding individuals headed by Brady Speer - coached by Miss Kelleher, and swim team - coached by Mr. Larsen. G.A.A. Officers - Brady Speer, Cindy Sanders, and Kris Roush. G.A.A. stands for Girls' Athletic Association. lt consisted of girls staying after school to play in differ- ent sports such as tennis, basket- ball, and volleyball. It was different from the Varsity teams where girls had tryouts and the best girls made the team. In G.A.A. everyone had a chance to play against each other.
