Fencing Club - ROW 1: Will Cheek, Vince Hyman, Oralia Flores. ROW 2: Dave Camden, Joe Kaufman, Tim Cassilly, Fencing is a fast growing sport. The first tournament ever held for high school students was conducted at Parkway West this spring by our Fencing Club. Not only boys, but girls also were in the competition which, at times, had several matches in process simultaneously. Barb Saum, from West, won first place and Oralia Flores, also from West came in second in the girls O Q A5 ln French Club we spent ourfirst semester raising money for a Spring trip to New Orleans. We sold doughnuts in the morning and had many bake sales and fund raising projects. We flew to the French Quarter in New Orleans, and found it to be Old Worldiness' and very beautiful. We spent some time sight- seeing and went to some Boutiques and saw many historical sites. lf asked, any of us would describe the trip as being a very meaningful and rewarding Cand above all FUN tri competition.Vincy Hyman,Tom ' J p' Cassilly, and Joe Kaufman, placed first, second and third in the tourney for the boys competition. Walk Together, Talk Together The American Field Service is an organization that is work- ing to further world under- standing. By promoting For- eign Language Week, planning an assembly and parties, and arranging foreign exchanges, AFS has given West's students a look at other cultures and ways ofthinking. This year AFS sponsored Warawoot Srithaporn CWootJ from Thailand. Woot has par- ticipated in many of West's ac- tivities including soccer. Last summer Ki Bowman, a senior spent 10 weeks in Afghanistan through an Americans Abroad program.
