Trying to understand and live with ecology could easily describe the Biology Club. But we didn't stop there, we lived up to that state- ment. We had many overnight trips where we discovered nature, each in our own way. To climax the weekends we had a one week canoe float trip during the summer. This was a lot of fun as we were able to know each other as indi- viduals. During the week we prepared experi- ments for the Biology classes, took care of the animals, did outside labs, had ecological pick- ups, did indoor labs, and had fund-raisings. The fund-raises were to help with our expen- ses. The most exciting part about Biology Club was how we were able to meet new people, make lasting friendships, and share new experiences. Astronomy and Rocket Clubs To explore our hobby of watching stars, all of us joined the Astronomy Club. This year we had the exciting experience of building our own telescope at our meetings. Each one of us would choose a topic about astronomy and then we would discuss the topic at our meet- ings. Every week or so we would meet to have an all night watch of the stars. The Rocket Club formed this year to explore our interest of building rockets and launches. Once we had made the rockets we experimented with them by firing them from the launches. We set up workshops towards the start of the year in which students taught other students things of personal interest such as crocheting, cave exploring, airplane pilotry and more. Classes were held in the eve- nings. We took part in helping with the blood mobile at Clayton Woods..Elementary School and participated in College Day at Webs- ter College where we learned what was necessary and what there was to do to become a teacher. We also journeyed to Litzsinger Elementary School to learn about Special Education. For our meetings we invited numerous guest speakers to talk about different fields of education. Some were on the nursery school level and some on what it would be like to teach overseas. Throughout the year we had many money raising projects. The profits went toward a scholarship for a student interested in majoring in education. Towards the end of the year we held a teacher's luncheon for the teachers at West.
