The Junior and Senior members of DECA with their sponsors. Deca Club DECA Club is a national chapter organization concerned about developing future leaders for America. Only Junior and Senior students could be enrolled in our program. Seniors went to school half a day, and then went to their prospec- tive jobs to receive training, and eventually a pos- ition. For them, DECA was working 15 hours per week at your designated job. Although Juniors couldn't actually receive the training the Seniors did, they learned Distributive Education in class, and played a major part in our program - especially one Junior name Bec- ci Pritchett, who became our club president. However, she isn't the only one who should be commended. Bill Smyly, our club reporter, re- ceived three DECA trophies at a contest. Credit should be given also to our sponsors, lVlr. Foley and Mr. Sailor. Bill Smyly proudly displays his trophies. Amateur Radio The Parkway West Amateur Radio Club, now in it's third year of existence, was well on its way toward ac- tually installing a station here at West. We had our sta- tion licenses, a receiver, an antenna which loomed high above the school, and over 55100 made from can- dy sales and other club projects. We talked to other countries all around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Germany, and Africa. We also had within our club Bill Ogroski, winner of a nation-wide radio contest. Some of our more active members included Bill Ames, president, Dave Weir, Ward Silver, Bill Ogroski, Steve Smith, Don Reader, and Mr. Larson, sponsor. Rifle Club - Greg Irwin, Bob Bay, Mr. Biere, Sponsor, Tom Calzone, Jeff Hansen, Jim Obermeyer, Steve Bay, Brian Mertz, Tim Clerk, Jerry Reed, and Ron Lindroth. Ron Lindroth and Tim Clerk receive help at target practice. 128 'Lg Steve Smith, Colleen McPherson, Bill Ames, Dave Weir, and Don Reader make fund-raising plans at an Amateur Radio Rifle Club The Rifle Club was a fairly new organization. It was the early beginning of what hopefully will become the Parkway West Small Bore Rifle Team. Possibly, in a year or more, the team can begin competing with other high schools in the area. As club members we spent one night a week at the target range and one in the classroom with a professional marksman. Once or twice a week, we shot hand traps after school. The club had something for just about everyone interested in guns and shooting.. Club meeting. Greg Irwin and Brian Mertz try to improve their marksmanship.
