Sons of the Desert is a group of people who enjoy playing instruments together for the fun of it. We organized a few years ago and the idea has stayed on. Now S.O.D. is the official pep band for the basketball games. We accompany the Dance Corps and add a few toots of spirit to the game as well as playing our own arrangements. Dance Corps is a group of girls from the Highlanders who work together after the football season to put on Dance Corps 1972-1973: ROW 1: Kim Coleman and Robin Vocelka, Captains. ROW 2: Ginger Irwin, Cap- tain: Janet Mitchell, Nanci Riner, Linda Danielson, Di- ane Mitchell, and Nancy Cummins, Captain. ROW 3: Bev Lych, Gloris Ketchel- meier, Jeryl Jones, Janet Loft, Jill Trask, and Julie Lofgreen. ROW 4: Abby Hahn, Marlene Hallam, Kar- en May, Diane Matthis, Sue Breeden, Sue Johnson, and BeckyYoung. L O C 8l lCG D shows for the basketball halftimes. A new routine was needed for each show which meant a lot of practice after school and a newly designed dance. We tried to vary the routines this year by adding hula hoops and pom poms to them. F- 5:07 Wllw Being in National Forensics League meant competing or speaking in front of an audience to earn 25 points to become a member. Once we were in NFL it meant a lot of hard work and ex- tensive research on our topics. When we did the research, it involved hours of after school work in which part of the work included challenge rounds for debators. With our motto Training Youth for Leader- ship in mind, we learned how to grow individual- ly. We learned how to work with each other when we hosted the Parkway West Invitational Debate and Drama Festival. The tournament was a lot of work yet it gave us a feeling of accomplishment. All in all NFL helped us to grow in a unique way. Bob Portnoy announces winners at West's N.F.L. Tournament.
