Many hopeful students toured the dorm, hospital, and display area. Refresh- ments were served in the recreation room. Much hard work is put into plan- ning the displays to show what is in- volved in each area of nursing that is studied. A simulated surgery is done by the juniors and the smelling salts are kept nearby! 4. Open House offers guests sites seen only in the hospital, such as the Circo-o-Electric bed. 5. President Linda Randall along with Susan Fields organized the event. The money earned from the annual project goes toward the junior -Senior Banquet. Spooks, Ghosts, Goblins, and Fun Ghosts, goblins, Raggedy Andy and Ann Scarecrows, tinmen, and old lady and man, All appeared one Halloween night Really creating quite a sight. The judges judged with ease and skill The contestants paraded around, and then were still. Prizes were awarded, faces were happy Concordia joined us, all was snappy. Food was brought out, people gathered 'rou.nd, Soon music was started, the dance got off the ground. Everyone had a good time, they thought it was fun, Hope they were glad they decided to come. 1. I was just going to wash my hair when all of a sudden. . . 15 Decorate Those Doors, Sing Those J U- ld V 4 HQ 4 Christmas brought many festivities this year beginning with the door decora- tion contest and carolling at Parkview and Veteran's Hospitals. Scared, anxious, and eager - 75 Pro- bies arrived at Parkview with the goal of becoming nurses. Each Probie's Big Sis set the pace for her with the 21 little nurse's caps they had made. As the long hours of studying in the library paid off, the little caps were torn down week by week. On january 16, 1976, 73 proud freshmen received their caps or stripes from Miss Kolter at the New Haven United Methodist Church. They had only just be- gun to achieve their dream. Nothing better describes the night of Capping then the Probie's own words, We made it happen! Mary Woolever received the Merit Award from administrator, Mark Slen, for academic achievement and clinical skills - pictured at right. The evening was concluded with a re- ception at English Hall. Lisa Wilkinson begins the clean up job left for the freshmen by their Big Sisses after the precapping party. 5. Newly capped Freshmen serenade Miss Kolter with their capping song. Hospital Life of a Student Nurse X1 Jr Sr Banquet Highlights 19 6 What's that one time of the year Parkview girls step out of their uni- forms into long formals and guys get out of jeans into suits and ties? What's the big event students spend two years raising money for? What's the occasion seniors like so well be- cause they didn't have to put the work, headaches, and sweat into it? Any Parkview student nurse will tell you, it's the junior -Senior Banquet! This year's banquet, annually planned by the juniors in honor of the seniors, was held at the Black Rose Restaurant, Friday, April 23. Wal- den, invited back from 1975, pro- vided the music for the three hour dance. What's that one thing the juniors look forward to their senior year when they no longer have the work and headaches to worry over? Director of Nursing May 14, 1976 marked Marie Kolter's retirement after 28 years as Director of Nursing. Miss Kolter holds a special pride for her School of Nursing, and each student holds a great deal of admiration for that special lady. From more than a few have come the words, l hope to be MRS. Included among their many duties were filling mailboxes, taking messages, and greeting students and visitors. The housemothers and father also spent much time listening to the students' joys as well as complaints. They served as mothers and a father away from home. 1. Paula Burk received the Miss Healthy award from her classmates. 68 April 30 was the date for the annual Alumni Banquet held at Zoli's Chalet in honor of the graduating class. The class flower decorated the tables and each sen- ior was able to take one at the end of the banquet. A style show by Nobson's high- lighted the evening. The morning of graduation began with a chapel service followed by a breakfast for the almost graduates. Hall's Restaurant catered the meal to the large classroom. Many hospital personnel were present to honor the seniors. The class presented to Miss Kolter a gold charm for her many years of service to the school. Three awards were given to members of the graduating class. Debra Follas received the Emergency Room Award from the Fraternal Order of Police. Karen Wagner was presented with the Psychiatric Award by the Allen County Mental Health Asso- ciation. Laura Potter received the Adena Carney Award for her ability in the inten- sive care nursery. Twenty-one seniors were also presented with honor guards for the school pin. Three long years of study was rap- idly coming to an end: graduation was only a few hours away. 1. Laura Potter is presented with the award for superior ability in the intensive care nursery by Adena Carney. 2. President Arlene Sebert presents Miss Kolter with a gold charm for her years of dedication to the school of nursing. 3. Do these young women appear a little heavier than when they woke in the morning? 4. Over one-third of the class was presented with honor guards for the school pin. Awards were bestowed to two deserving new nurses.
