Leiter Hume Senior Class History A f Yxgrgjx, W jrilil if Dear Mom and Dad, I thought the day would never come. I waited impatiently. repacked my clothes umpteen times and had you in a constant tiny. Then Hnally. .-Xugust 26, l95f'l, I became a member of the class of l95tS, Parkview-AIethodist School of Nursing. I'll never forget the feeling of excitement as I walked into the orientation tea that first day, and looked around at the girls who were to be my constant companions for the next three years. I wondered who my roommate would be. There was a sudden lost and lonely feeling after you left me, alone, in the nurses' home. I was on my own then and wondered if I would make the grade. There was the hrst night when we all gathered in one room to get acquainted, and someone said, -lust think, in only two years, eleven months, three weeks, and six days we'll graduate. I studied as I had never studied before in the weeks that followed and at last came the happy day when I donned the probie uniform and started my hospital duties. One of the biggest thrills during my lirst year was f'0peration Big Switch on Novem- ber 2l, III53. The entire hospital moved to new buildings on Randalia Drive. That was the first time I ever rode in a semi-truck fand I hope it's the lastj. Finally another big day arrived. February 28, l954, the day I received my cap. Ours was the Hrst class to have its capping reception at the new English Hall. Then things really happened fast. I began my specialties. Surgery-it sounded excit- ing, but when the time came, I was scared to death. Diet Kitchen--I thought I would never lose all those extra pounds I had gained from the milkshakes. Obstetrics-the feeling of awe as I watched my Hrst birth, the satisfaction I felt as I instructed the new mother, and the wonder- ment of how those sweet little things could be so much work. Pediatricsfthe everlasting con- flict of who should be treated first, the child or the lllllfflll. My psychiatric and tuberculosis affiliations are something I will always remember - - - the treat ol extra privileges, but also the horrible feeling of homesickness. For months I wanted to go home: then I had a week of regret because I was leaving. I am a senior now, and my finishing date is near. Three years of hard work, complain- ing, good times, and satislaction are all things connected with my training. It's what I wanted, but now I feel a deep regret as the final day approaches. This is a portion of my life which will never be forgotten. As ever, Your daughter I5
