v .2 'X 1. FRANKLIN GAMBLE ROBERT D. HENRY DR. ARCH LOWE, JR. Progress today to meet the challenges of the future is the keynote of the Springfield Public Schools under the admin- istration of Mr. Willard J. Graff, superintendent. To this end, the educational program has again been deepened and enriched this year with the addition of Rus- sian and advanced courses in Spanish and French to the foreign language dapartment, of economics to the social studies area, and of mathematical analysis to the mathe- matics departmentg with the emphasis being placed on President Kennedy's physical fitness program in the physi- cal education department, and the offering of a seminar on isms for the teachers, high school students, and the public. That Springfield's growing student population may he provided proper physical facilities a program of building has been far-sightedly planned and effectively carried out. The success of every business is dependent in the final analysis upon the policies, the degree of control, the freedom granted, the judgment, the tolerance of the govern- ing body of that business. In the same way the success of the Springfield Public Schools depends in a large measure upon the kind of men who make up the Springfield Board of Education. The citizens of Springfield have elected to their school board men who have the vision to anticipate the needs of the schools and the practical judgment to cope with the constantly arising problems. Their only compensation for the many hours spent away from their private affairs is the satisfaction that comes from making an important con- tribution to the community and to the nation through the education of today's youth. is x.,,, ,.,.
