Qllass isiurg In early September of nineteen hundred and fifty -eight a group of eager Freshmen entered Parkton High School with high hopes for the future . Our sponsor for the year was Mrs. Margretha Mitchell. We elected the following to serve as class officers: Norma Stephens, President, Herbert Carter, Vice -President, Betty Harrell, Secretary, and Tommy Carroll, Treasurer. The following year we came back as Sophomores. Under the faculty leadership of Martin Poyner we went to work with great anticipation. Elected to serve as officers for the year were Tommy Carroll, President, Doris Brisson, Vice- President, James Malloy, Secretary, Betty Harrell, Treasurer. The main event of the year was the initiation of five of our members-Frances McMillan, Norma Stephens, Doris Brisson, Flora Odom, and Bill Newton--into the National Beta Club. We closed our Sophomore year with a picnic at Lakewood. The next year as juniors we were under the leadership of McKinley F. Hall, jr. Serving as officers for our Junior year were James Malloy, President, Frances McMillan, Vice-President, Betty Harrell, Secretary, Patsy Crenshaw, Treasurer. In early january of that year we received our class rings. On May 12th we entertained the Seniors, the Faculty, and the members of the School Board, with our junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, Stairway to the stars. Selected to serve as marshals during the Commencement Exercises that year were Frances McMillan and Norma Stephens, Co-Chiefs, Ruby Allen, Doris Brisson, joan Mabe, and Bill Newton. SENIORS! . . .At last the long awaited day had come. Sewing as our sponsor for the year was Mrs. Frances S .Gibson. The officers chosen to lead us through the year were Bill Newton, President, Herbert Carter, Vice -President, Patsy Crenshaw, Secretary, James Malloy, Treasurer, Sam Bunnell, Sergeant-at-Arms. We worked very hard on our edition of OUR SPARKS, but with Mrs. Pat Lewis serving as our sponsor, we thoroughly enjoyed our work. As the time of our departure draws near we look back and realize that Parkton School has meant a great deal to us in these last twelve years. We wish to thank every person who has had a part in helping us through these years of pleasure and hard work. FLORA ODOM Historian 13
