It has been our purpose to prepare you to meet the experiences of life with a greater understanding and to face these experiences with courage and resourcefulness. Individually you will walk many different paths in life; your education here is merely a beginning. Never forget that you can make of your life only that which you are willing to work for. It is our sincere wish that you will take advantage of every educational and spiritual opportunity along life’s pathway, so that your life and its contribution will be both satisfactory and rewarding. 2 In 1927 this third building of Parksky High School was constructed. The memories of two fires and months of reconstruction ate absent from my memory, however, for the P.H.S. I know Jus always stood hem. educating my parent?., trie mis, and now me. for nearly twelve vears, I ' ve had ihte building ' :? acquaintance, ar.d it has watched me grow from the day I spotted my first cap and gown in kindergarten graduation until now, when its stage will soon watch me march to that same rhythm and In that dress once again. Its outer face has .never changed from the smiling doors now thiown open to me. Inside, its. halts have brightened with new ilocong and paint and the office and classrooms have constantly sported new principals and teachers to add variety to my stay. The change mat has mm fascinated me, however, has been the loss of a few more, face each year and receiving news that that girl or boy I once envied as a “senior” has become a lawyer or teacher in that “cold world.” Once, a long time ago, I was a junior and curiously wondered why in the world those seniors kept gazing over their shoulders for long glances at these windows arid bricks they had known most of their lives. But now it is I who have come to the looking-back stage. Each class has moved on to make room for me, and now the “out” door has opened for my passage. IVe walked this same sidewalk in front of the budding many a morning with a notebook to my face and never noticed until now how prettily the sun sparkles its windows and seems to invite me in. Perhaps this is the good memory to hold - the morning sun on P.H.S. and the “in” door instead of the diploma and the “out.” For many, Fm sure it has been just “out ” but upon my class I wish it will be the hall through which to pass info a new and richer life. And for those of you I leave behind, take a look at it again. In a year or two or three, you’ll be standing here on my sidewalk, walking in for the last time, trying to memorize its face, and counting the steps up to the hall, too. Take your first good look at it now, put yourself in the picture, and share my wish that when you stand here in my shadow ' ready to leave, you, too, will forever remember. A Senior We dedicate JlCrs. cljf ria D ormam We, the Seniors of 1969 of Parksley High School, take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to Mrs. Edna Notham who has faithfully served the students here for the past fifteen years. Her activities at school have extended far beyond her Business Education classes. Not only has she, for many years, sponsored the Beta Club, but also she has spent many long hours helping the EAGLE’S ECHO staff publish the school paper. Therefore, it is with gratitude that we dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Edna Northam. 5 hBHhHhH 6 7 8 9 10 11 sentatwe ' esen a iue ■lomore unior omecommy ueen ene 7 x sfj na i Represe ntaiioe o tui ( Jrac e cprcscn a ioc ln ita C J sree w :o awn L- a no Jfc am e comma 1969 ii freedom should die by hands who hate us to be free And those who lived with me can be And think and feel and love no more The life we built on freedom’s core. don’t leave to us our minds to live our will, us our old cause until souls bury our prisoned fate doom, and even we begin to hate. take you my flag, its flames let spiral up the sky To heaven. V Mrs. Sprague - F.H.A. Mrs. Scott - Beta Club Our Sponsors With sincere gratitude we thank the teachers who have given their time and effort to sponsor school clubs. Their genuine interest and helpful guidance has contributed so much to the activities that have been a part of our school life at Parksley High School. Their excellent training and experi¬ ence has proven time and again to be extremely helpful. We should like to extend our deepest appreciation to them for the time and advice given to us. Although they must get tired of the many little problems that come up with these clubs, they are always willing to help us carry on the activities of the club. The Beta Club is a national leadership and service organization which honors those juniors and seniors who have maintained a 90 or above average since entering high school. Its purpose is to honor high scholastic achievements and pro¬ mote high ideals of honesty and service. The members of the Beta Club are responsible for such things as the American flag and the Beta Club Honor Roll posted in the hall. The main event of the year is the annual Beta Convention for which everyone impatiently waits. In all of their work, the Beta members strive to be better citi¬ zens. 19 Stucfent (jo unci FRONT ROW: A. Greene, D. Smith, B. Parks, E. Barnes, D. Justis, D. Beiote, T. West, D. Land, R. However, the eighth to the twelfth grades elect representatives. These representatives take part in promoting school activities for the benefits of the school and its students with the approval of the principal. The representatives usually select projects or ways to raise money for various needs of the student body. The main project this year was a handbook containing various infor¬ mation on sports, clubs, general rules of the school, etc. which will be given each year to students entering the eighth grade. Each year the president appoints a nominating committee who submits a slate of student officers to the student body for election by secret ballot. TOP-BOTTOM: T. Dix, P. Furness, N. Baker, B. Most students have little idea how much work is involved in getting out this relatively small publication. Although there were, at times, disagreements among the staff mem¬ bers, generally we worked together to produce this book. Give credit where credit is due, so here goes. First, let’s thank our sponsor, Miss Morton. She was the one who spurred us on when we were lazy, which was often. Credit is also due to the staff members them¬ selves. We also want to thank the teachers for their co-operation during the year. Remember that this yearbook is yours and that without you, the students, there wouldn’t be a yearbook at all. Enjoy this book, because, after and above all, you’re the ones it was made for. TOP: M. Bundick; 2ND ROW: T. Langley, P. Furness, T. Dix, C. Tilghman, N. Baker, B. Wessells; KNEELING: D. Tierney, M. Although their hitting was not up to par, their pitching and defense were their best points. Mr. Wallace reports that the team will really look good this year if they just improve on their hitting. As for the girls, this was the secon d year in a row that they missed winning that trophy by one game and by one run! If it hadn’t been for a few over thrown balls, we would have won the Champion¬ ship. But never fear, the Eagle Lassies are guaranteeing that the trophy will be sitting in the hall at the end of this year! We also hope it will help you remember some of the fun and good times you’ve had at dear ole Parksley High. It brings a tear to our eyes when we think that this is the last year that the class of ’69 will be together in the great Eagle, but we are sure that the torch will be kept burning throughout the coming years. Our many thanks go out to the faculty. Miss Morton, our advisor, and the Annual Staff for their cooperation in helping us make this yearbook a big success. Good-bye P.H.S. (P y 80 4 Ct_A H • 1 .
