School helps us to have pride. We begin to take pride in our work. It can be a compo- sition for English, a part in a play. lt might be a Chemistry experiment, a woodworking project, or a new dress made in homemak- ing. But it is ours, and we are proud of our accomplishments. Then we learn to temper that pride with humility. It is the humility of realizing how little we have learned in the scope ofall that it still to be discovered. For some of us, dreams of making new discoveries, of developing new products, of find new cures for human problems, or of designing things to make life easier urge us on to new avenues of learning, and to higher education at colleges and universities. Others plan careers in fields which won't necessarily require advanced education, but demand job experience and years of training for advancement. Still others will enter military and government service. Sponsored by Mr. George Ellis Page 3

'4WE'RE THE MATA- DORS, AND COULDN'T BE PROUDERR is a phrase we'll never forget. And when we come to parkland again at Homecoming, or look through this year- book, we'll remember that teary-eyed feel- ing we got whenever we sang 'fFrom the fields of the lower valley, to the slopes of Mount Franklin's Crestf' the words from our beloved alma mater. And welll recall the tremendous burst of pride and energy we felt when the band played our fight song. Surely some of us will hope that our children will have similar ex- periences, will develop similar pride, memories, dreams. Sponsored by Mrs. Frances Dungan Page 5
