School helps us to have pride. We begin to take pride in our work. It can be a compo- sition for English, a part in a play. lt might be a Chemistry experiment, a woodworking project, or a new dress made in homemak- ing. But it is ours, and we are proud of our accomplishments. Then we learn to temper that pride with humility. It is the humility of realizing how little we have learned in the scope ofall that it still to be discovered. For some of us, dreams of making new discoveries, of developing new products, of find new cures for human problems, or of designing things to make life easier urge us on to new avenues of learning, and to higher education at colleges and universities. Others plan careers in fields which won't necessarily require advanced education, but demand job experience and years of training for advancement. Still others will enter military and government service. Sponsored by Mr. George Ellis Page 3

As each class graduates from Parkland High, the school and the members of that particular class have changed. Theylve grown up together. They've ma- tured. And for the most part, all have prof- ited from the experiences they have shared. School has given all of us our 'fMemories of Yesterday and Dreams of Tomorrow. School helps us weave the dreams of our futures. We learn to gain confidence in oursleves by building on past experienceg to follow scientific methods of trial and errorg to find the necessary sources of all kinds of information, material and help that we nev- er knew existed. School makes us rely on ourselves for de- cisions. We find out that we are responsible for the decisions once we have made them and we learn to accept that responsibility. We learn that we pay the consequences for wrong decisions, but that we also get credit for our successes.
