Twenty Years And Growing. . . And for a while, it looked as if we wouldn't make it. A disastrous fire in the 7O's, a walkout in the 80's, and all the normal moans and groans of a student body that came and went, as parents followed military and civil- ian careers. We added new courses, began Drivers- Ed programs, built a stadium and rebuilt the fire-ravaged portion ofthe building. Our students wrote, read, conducted ex- periments, ran, batted, and passed. Because we are a small school, it is easier to know all of the students. Perhaps this is the thing that helped us to develop so much Parkland Pride. This is one school where students don't get lost in the hustle and bustle of classes, and administration. l' 'QQLN Danny Morrison 84 Lemuel Cartagenas' painting decorates the band room door Parkland groups develop atador Pride ' wif'-N '41-nv I 4 is '1Pmng,,nwqhu'MxWhMv Football players relax after workout. TWENTY YEARS AND GROWING Parkland is an adult, all grown up. The many years have been tough, rugged and often fun. Parkland is a fitting name be- cause it started in the middle of a desert with five grades fl-55, five teachers and a principal. Now, the Parkland family includes Parkland Elementary and Parkland Jr. High. The metamorphisis from infancy to an established high school has seen fads, fashions, and many peo- ple come and go. Graduates have joined the army, become teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. The trophy case is filled with rem- nants of hours of hard workin sports speech, drama, journalism, science, math, cheerleading and countless other events which have become a vital part of Parkland,s heritage. 3
