ap J D i f THE TIGER 1981 PARKIN HIGH SCHOOL PARKIN, ARKANSAS Mrs. Joy Holt “A TRIBUTE TO JOY” (In Memory Of Our Beloved Mrs. Holt) You worried when they didn't learn As quickly as they should, You persevered until they did In fact, we knew you would. Your voice commanded attention and respect Yet was never too demanding, You cheered many saddened little hearts With sympathy and understanding. Your talent encompassed the field of art, Your pictures adorned our walls. They brought the little ones sheer delight And brightened our somber halls. You often spoke of football Which was your favorite game. You even knew when the Packers lost Which player was to blame. Your loyalty to Parkin schools Serves as an inspiration, Seldom is there ever found Such earnest dedication. Teaching children was your life, You lived it beautifully. The gift of molding youthful minds You gave so lovingly. We Miss You! Dedicated to Mr. Henry Long Mr. Henry Long has been an integral part of our school system for the last twenty-four years. He is a friend as well as a teacher, and we would like to thank him for devoting himself and his time to us. His personal interest in each student has been an inspiration to all of us. Because of his friendliness, helpfulness, and attitude toward the students, the members of the annual staff proudly dedicate the 1981 TIGER to Mr. Henry Long. There is no chance of rain. Feeling like sweathogs, hot. tired, and exhausted. Arvin Marlowe and Chris Allen relax with a cold drink after a hard day of classes. Students and teachers alike suffered in the unbearable heat as another school year began. Cold drinks, electric fans, paper fans, and ice cream sundaes didn 't cure the hot weather but kept our spirits up as we attended our classes. The discomfort and lack of attention that result in unaircondi- tioned rooms during an Arkansas August influenced the administration's decision to “give the kids a break with temporary short-day classes till the weather broke. Thanks to the short-day schedule, the students survived to face what proved to be an interesting year. Marilyn Henderson and Vicki Hogland use paper fans trying to combat the summer heat. 11 Trying to escape the scorching sun. Daniel Smith climbs up in the old. shade tree. After a hot. tiring morning of classes. Joe Jones enjoys the cool, air-conditioned library. Cynthia Allen cools off with a delicious strawberry sundae. Having only 35 cents, Daniel Smith hopes that the price of a Coke hasn't gone up overnight. Vicki Hogland feels that the best way to cool off is just plain, cold water. Providing a little shade for our school mascot. Jake Wesson thinks this soda sure feels good going down. 13 Jobs Wanted. Working at Westmoreland's. Keith Vaughn spends most of his time cutting and wrapping meat. Some of P.H.S.'s enterprising students take advantage of their free time after school by getting a job. It is difficult to hold down a job while attending school, but most enjoy the money-making experience. Everyone looks forward to receiving that beloved paycheck. Some students save the money that they have earned for college or a car. and others just spend it on a good time! No matter where they work, the benefits of the jobs are countless, and the experience will stay with them throughout their lives. 14 Daniel Smith is kept busy working at the school each afternoon. An enjoyable part of Karen Williams' job is making an ice cream sundae. Working at the meat counter is only one part of Tommy Ivy's job at the D A Supermarket. 15 ADMINISTRATION Mr. Corbet Passmore Superintendent Of Schools Mrs. Gail Burnette Bookkeeper Secretary Mrs. Lois Passmore High School Secretary Mr. John Prysock High School Principal Parkin School Board Left to Right: Wesley McGee. We've Only Just Begun Seniors at Parkin have a tradition of choosing a class song, flower, colors, and motto. For the song, seniors chose We've Only Just Begun. By majority vote, they chose the white carnation as their flower, and black and white as their colors. Our dreams of today will be our realities of tomorrow for we have just made the first step toward our goal, was the motto for the seniors of 1981. 37 Miss Frankie Blevins Senior Class Sponsor Mrs. Bessie Morris Senior Class Sponsor 38 Lynn Breckenridge Joe Cantrell Ricky Carter Minnie Clemmons Eddie Duckett Jr. Brenda Church Charles Cummings Joey Davis Archie Harris Jr. Sharon Hill Barry Hinton 39 Daryian Hopkins Paul Jennings Joe Jones John Paul Jones Terry Hinton Tommy Ivy Julie Jackson Carl Jones Brenda Mason Johnny Key Bobby Lately Pamela Kirby Arvin Marlowe Yvonne Mosley Tim Ray Sylvia Riley 4i Kenny Sanders Daniel Smith Melvin Robinson Victor Settles Joe Shaw Joe Smith Jr. 42 Keith Vaughn Rudy Walker Theodis Washington Lavonda Webb Jake Wesson Jr. Linda Weston Jerry White Annette Williams Larry Williams 43 Senior Class Will , Cynthia Allen, will my craziness to Vanessa M., all my love to Efrem Jones, and my ability to finish school to my brothers. However, the 1981 Tiger staff faced the challenge with dedication and excitement. By second semester, the exci- tement had worn thin, but the staff applied itself with diligence to complete the task for which it had begun. The staff spent countless hours planning, drawing layouts, and taking hundreds of pictures. Hopefully, the result will be an annual which reflects the uniqueness of the years, which the school community will appreciate. Joe Cantrell Editor Joe Cantrell—Editor Senior Joe Cantrell..........
