PARKIN HIGH SCHOOL Parkin, Arkansas Take Time . . . In Memory of a Special Friend John Bradley 1 once had a friend who was all smiles. If you asked him to do inches, he would walk miles. Everytime you saw him, he was making people laugh. If you asked his part, he’d do more than half. Everyone was fond of him, there was nothing he wouldn't do. If you asked for a favor, he’d surely come through. He was real athletic minded, he played any kind of ball. If you asked him what sport he played, he’d say, “I play them all!” He was loved by everyone, his enemies were few. No one loved him more, not me nor you. 2 He made everyone’s light turn bright, he never made it dim. When asked to do something, he did his best—never his worst. His singing ability was great, he stood out in the crowd. If it wasn’t for him, the bass didn’t sing very loud. He practiced almost every day. He took criticism from the coaches, and he kept on trying, trying to find a better way! But he didn’t plan on dying. He had a nickname, people called him “Sweet Apple.” He was the best friend that ever lived in the whole wide world. He will be missed by everyone he knew. Everybody loved “Sweet Apple.” I did, did you? He didn’t plan on dying, but he did . . . Dedicated to Mrs. Wanda Whitby A shining light glowing through our school day memories is the subject of this dedication. She was always there counting money and collecting money for various things, taking messages, and doing loads of paperwork. She was always there to listen to complaints of students, teachers, and even the principal. She was always there for everyone. For her service to students and faculty, the members of the annual staff lovingly dedicate the 1980 TIGER to our high school secretary, Mrs. Wanda Whitby. This is one small “thank-you to the students friend. 3 The Home of the “Tigers.” Table of Contents Take Time . . . . . . As we worked on this annual, we tried to capture moments of excitement, disappointment, joy, and sorrow. This year started as a challenge for me and the rest of the staff. Though at times we felt like we wouldn't make it, we continued on. Our sponsor, Mrs. Diederich. though in her first year as annual sponsor, did more than her share to help us. To her, the administration, and the faculty for their help and cooperation, we say thank you. We hope that this yearbook will be the source for recollecting sweet memories for years to come. Officers The Governing Body of Parkin High School The Student Council of Parkin High School has worked hard to blend effective leadership with helpful school service. In order to establish a link between the student body and faculty, the Student Council encourages the student body to work cooperatively with the faculty and the administration. It provides an opportunity for students to participate in government. The Student Council is the voice of the students. If the students see a needed change within reason, then the Council has the power to make that change. The Council obtained permission to have a pay telephone installed. This year. Parkin ran for inter-city offices and state offices. Results were not available at the deadline of this yearbook, but we are sure that they will represent Parkin well. The Council sponsors the Christmas door decorations, the school bulletin boards, the talent show, the honors assembly, and May Day. As the governing body of Parkin High School, the Student Council strived to improve school morale, school pride, and to encourage better relationships between Parkin High School and other schools. By providing a firm foundation for the future Student Councils to build on, this year’s Student Council feels that their hard work wasn’t in vain. Future Farmers of America THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR BOYS STUDYING VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE The Future Farmers of America strive to increase their knowledge in the field of agriculture and all farm related activities. For the Future Farmers, the plow is the symbol of labor and tillage of the soil. They believe that without labor, neither knowledge nor wisdom can accomplish much. Mr. Brawner supplies the materials for the Future Farmers to acquire the knowledge needed, and then allows them to put that knowledge to work. The Future Farmers compete in the judging contests at Jonesboro and the parliamentary procedures contest. 109 Music Club Back Row: Mark Coleman, Kim Hicks. Jeff Epps.
