DELANO Sponsor Senior Class History September of 1962 found us with twenty-three ambitious sen- iors since Irene Lyons and Nancy Stiffler, as in the case of Donna Lincoln, preferred the life of a house-wife to school and James Swallow moved. Linda Tucker joined our ranks. We met with our sponsors. Mrs. Moore and Mr. DeLano, and elected the following officers: president, Gaylin Nickell; vice- president, Jimmie Thomas; secretary, Myma Crouch; treasurer, Lorita Gross; and student council representatives, Ralph Wilcox and Marylou Brownback. On May 3 we left for the scenic Ozarks for our sneak; we returned late Saturday from our pleasure packed,carefree trip. The evening of Mav 10 we enjoyed very much the outstanding Junior-Senior Banquet, The Enchanted Island. There were several outstanding members in our senior class. Marilyn Hampton placed first in the Linn County Dry Fbrces Essay Contest. Elaine Stites won the Betty Crocker Award. Lorita Gross was chosen Queen of the Osawatomie Pair. Charolette Coop was Queen of the Band Fair and F.F.A. Sweetheart. Ralph Wilcox and Elaine Stites were football King and Queen; Myrna Crouch and Gaylin Nickell were their first attendants. Carolyn Magers, Elaine Stites, Lois Mauk, and Marilyn Hampton took their French Horn Quartet to the State Contest for the second year, received a two rating. Ronnie Singer, Bill Ewert, and James Hampton received a third place in the State F.F.A. dairy judging contest. Ralph Wilcox and James Hampton were outstanding in track. Gaylin Nickell received the Outstanding Student Award. The beginning of the end of our high school days came May 12 when we attended our Baccalaureate services. The Rev. Eldon E. Mauk delivered the sermon . The final move to the end was our Commencement Services on May 16, 1963. Rev. Harold M. Mallett was our speaker. We chose lavendar and white as class colors, the red rose as our class flower, and our motto, So much to do; so little done. They soon met with their sponsor Mr. Barnes and elected the following as their class officers: Connie Barnett, president; Mary Brooks, vice-president; Roy Nickell, secretary; Bruce Boydston, treasurer; student council, Linda Singer and Vernon Ellis. Linda Singer and Connie Barnett were elected cheer- leaders. Two sophomores were elected Homecoming Attend- ants; they were Connie Barnett and Richard Chambers. On December 7,1962 the sophomores presented their class assembly. They enjoyed two class parties, one of which was a pizza party and a dance. They met their sponsor, Mrs. Adell, and elected the following officers: president, Anna Gorrell; vice-president, Robert Chambers; secretary Charleta Dumcum; treasurer, David Hodgson; and student council representatives, Jimmy Wilson and Vickey Ross. In the fall, they enjoyed their first class party in the gymnasium. On November 27, the seniors honored the freshmen with a party, making them full-fledged Panthers. The class has taken an active part in the school activities and is looking forward to being sophomores. They presented a February Assembly, honoring the special birthdays of the month. Marilyn Hampton was first place winner of the Linn County Dry Forces Essay Contest; the winner's check was $25. ?°ntest Marilyn was first; Elaine, second; Myrna third with prizes of$7.50, $5, and $2.50. 9 Linda Tucker, Lorita Gross, Carolyn Magers, Marylou Brownback Myrna Crouch, Elaine Stites,Marilyn Hampton, Mrs. Parks, and Miss Frederickson participated in the Speech and Drama Festival at Shawnee Mission on March 23. On October 16 the Council sponsored a trip to the American Royal. They promoted the sale of tickets for the out- standing Cinerama, How The West Was Won which was attended by the teachers and students. Other activities of the year under the Council's supervision were the Christmas party and tree decoration, the Magazine Sales Campaign and Party, and the ice cream party at the close of the last day of school. Ag. boys farming programs. There was an average gain in net worth of $l|36 and an average net income of $1 09. The Ag. IV class had the highest gain in net worth, $78? per farming program, while the Ag. II class had the highest average farm income, $581.1;0. The three upper Voc. Ag. classes ended 1962 with a total net worth of $21,137 or each boy is worth $73 1|. The Ag. II class had the highest class total, $12,301; or $1230 per Ag. II boy. To find out how good the farming programs are managed, each student totaled all his receipts including ending inventory. This he subtracted from his expenses including labor and ending inventory. The Ag. II class were the best farm managers having $2114..30 net income above labor and feed costs. On November 9 they were guests of Greeley Cooperative Association. They co-sponsored with the Y-Teen Club, a Christmas party. The PPA Green- hand initiation was on January 2; the annual FPA Parent- Son Banquet was on April 23. Charolette Coop was their chap ter sweetheart, she received the sweet- heart jacket. Our candidate for I. C. C. representative was Susan Quaintance. Cherry Moore was her campaign manager. Carolyn was chosen to give a five minute talk on Faith and Miss Frederickson was a group leader. On November 10 the Y-Teens had a White Elephant Sale. This was a drive for funds to help finance World Fellowship. In December the Club held its annu- al Parent Daughter Party, with the theme Follow the Star. , T19 Cabinet and Sponsor planned several parties for the club members a Christmas Party, A Valentine Party, and a picnic party in the late spring time. p fnned aiJd enj°yed by all the girls. There were a number of specially outstanding cabinet meetings, the last of which was a joint meeting of out-going and in-coming officers at the home of Marilyn Hampton. g °r Serving at the Valentine Party Carolyn, Elaine, and Mary The Christmas Party Gifts are opened Elaine, Myma, and Carolyn Everyone admired the Box Meditation Musical Activities Band HIGH LIGHTS OF THE BAND ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR The band members and Mr. McCray went to Lawrence on November 17 to take part in KU Band Day. The Parker Band ranked 10th in the 70 bands that marched. The Brass Choir played for the Christmas Vesper Service. On January 29, the Band held its annual winter concert under the direction of Mr. Earl H. McCray. On March 15 Parker musicians played in the Chosen Band which Accompanied the Mixed Choruses at the Pleasanton Vocal Festival. At the Uni on town Instrumental Clinic the Band played two numbers. The Band received a II rating at Pittsburg on April 5. For eight consecutive years prior to this,our Band has received I's. Mr. McCray deserves much praise for his part in directing seven of these Bands to high ratings. The club had excellent cheerleaders, officers, and sponsor. The members worked together to achieve an atmosphere of enthu- siasm from our first football game to the last basketball game. A very capable committee devoted much time to the planning and prepara- tion of an outstanding homecoming display. Roses for Royalty was the theme for this 1962 Festival.
