“SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Just like that old saying about March, If It comes In like a lamb. It goes out like a lion. Perhaps we were Just a bit timid on that first day of September, 1953» but after the initia- tion on October 17, we all felt at home. Under the direction of Hrs. Parks and Mr. Pennybaker we elected Marvin Barnett as presi- dent; Norma Hodgson, vice-president; Elwin Tyson, secretary- treasurer; and Billie Mahan and Howard Wilson for student council ■embers. Although the year was packed full with school activities, we took time out for a treasure hunt and a hayrack ride. When the next September rolled around, it found us with only twenty-two students, fun packed and enthusiastic. With Keith Sims presiding at our first class meeting, we elected Howard Wilson as vice-president, Elwin Tyson as secretary-treasurer, and Norma Hodgson and Raymond Dunlop for student council. Nonna and Barbara were elected cheerleaders this year and served well for the remaining three years. Miss Dennis and Mr. Wilson, our sponsors, enjoyed with us a Halloween party and a wiener roast. Thus ended a happy and successful sophomore year. There's not a lagging moment In the Junior year. We immedi- ately elected officers, Elwin Tyson, president; Howard Wilson, vice-president; Billie Mahan, treasurer; Norma Kay Hodgson, secretary; for student council, Barbara McCoach, secretary; Keith Sims, president. Mrs. Moore and Mr. McPherson are our sponsors. Early in the year we selected our olass rings. We enjoyed two olass parties. On November 19, we presented our class play, Apple of His Eye . On April 28, we gave our banquet for the seniors, Treasure Island . Well, here come the lions. There are twenty of us this year, fourteen boys and six girls. Mr. Lutz and Mr. Lemon are our sponsors. We elected the following officers: Norma Kay Hodgson, president; Howard Wilson, vice-president; Keith Sims, treasurer; Esther Hood, secretary; for student council Elwin Tyson, vice- president; Norma Hodgson, president. Our homecoming King and Queen were Howard Wilson and Norma Kay Hodgson. On the 29th of March we gave our senior olass play Silas Marner , In which eighteen seniors participated. On the U-th of May we started on our Sneak Trlp to tha Ozarks. We returned home early on the morning of the 7th. It was hard to realize that we were really graduating until we donned our caps and gowns for Baccalaureate Services on May 13 and that final step on May 17—Commencement. Our guest speaker was Reverend Hugh Stouppe, of Baker University. Norma Hodgson gave the Valedictory; Billie Mahan, the Salutatory; Barbara McCoach, Class Prophecy; Ray Stites, Class Will; Eldon Magers, the Class History. Class Plower White Rose Class Colors Blue and Sliver Class Motto The higher you rise. The broader the view.
