The student council members wereDelorls Brownback and Glenn Riley. Finally the dreaded day of Initiation came and then they were full fledged Panthers, The class with their sponsors, Mr. Huff and Mr. Mauronl, had a wiener roast at the Apple Ranch. Doris McCarty and Martha Clinesmlth, Rex Davey and Bill Hlme were candidates for King and Queen. The freshmen year ended with a picnic at Garnett. When September 1951 arrived twenty-two of lastyears cubs enrolled. They looked different; beside the Increase In stature they carried an air of confidence. No longer green freshmen but old hands at their business of high school life. The class elected these officers: president, Warren Knight; vice-president, Johnny Stark; secretary-treasurer, Carolyn Knight; reportor, Kathryn Qulsenberry; and student council members, Doris McCarty and Gene Byerley. Deloris Brownback and Patsy Mundell served on the Y-Teen cabinet. Wanda Robison, from Oklahoma increased the class number to twenty three. Johnny Stark and Donna Brumley left the class, later In the term. Wanda Robison, Patty Morgan, Rex Davey, and Warren Knight were candidates for King and Queen. The class party held in thefall was a hayrack ride to the Cadmus picnic grounds. The spring party was a trip to theOsawatomle Lake for a sack lunch and to the theatre for a movie. The next big event was the senior play. After many hours of drill and practice and fun both at night and during school hours they presented, The Robe . Ronald Shaffer starred as Marcellas, and Gene Byerley as his faithful Greek slave, Demetrius. It was truly, a class play In which each one of the twenty one members participated. The production of The Robe Is said to have been colossal. The senior sneak trip to the Qzarks of Missouri and Arkansas was enjoyed Immensely. On the evening of May 16 was Baccalaureate Services, on May 18, Class Night, and May 21, Commencement with Dr.Nelson P. Horn, President of Baker University, giving the address to the Class.
