PARKS Sponsor Cias liistorg- In September 1950,twenty-three bewildred but determined freshmen began their high school days as baby Panthers In Parker Rural High School, They elected Patsy Mundell, president; Doris McCarty,vice-president;Bill Hlme,secretary- treasurer. The student council members wereDelorls Brownback and Glenn Riley. Finally the dreaded day of Initiation came and then they were full fledged Panthers, The class with their sponsors, Mr. Huff and Mr. Mauronl, had a wiener roast at the Apple Ranch. Doris McCarty and Martha Clinesmlth, Rex Davey and Bill Hlme were candidates for King and Queen. The freshmen year ended with a picnic at Garnett. When September 1951 arrived twenty-two of lastyears cubs enrolled. They looked different; beside the Increase In stature they carried an air of confidence. No longer green freshmen but old hands at their business of high school life. The class elected these officers: president, Warren Knight; vice-president, Johnny Stark; secretary-treasurer, Carolyn Knight; reportor, Kathryn Qulsenberry; and student council members, Doris McCarty and Gene Byerley. Deloris Brownback and Patsy Mundell served on the Y-Teen cabinet. Wanda Robison, from Oklahoma increased the class number to twenty three. Johnny Stark and Donna Brumley left the class, later In the term. Wanda Robison, Patty Morgan, Rex Davey, and Warren Knight were candidates for King and Queen. The class party held in thefall was a hayrack ride to the Cadmus picnic grounds. The spring party was a trip to theOsawatomle Lake for a sack lunch and to the theatre for a movie. Keith Platt, Ronald Shaffer, Eva Douthit, and Katie Beasley brought the enrollment to twenty-four Juniors In the halls of Parker High In the fall of 1952. The class elected Keith Platt, president; Dorothy Macoubrie, vice-president; Thersoll Schmidt, secretary; Marion Hodgson, treasurer; Martha Clinesmlth and Warren Knight,student council members. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Witmer were sponsors. The student body elected Carolyn Knight homecoming queen. The Junior play, The Inner Willy , and the Junior-Senior Banquet in the spring were very successful affairs. Two class parties were held, a hamburger fry in the fall when Glenn Riley exhibited his culinary art In frying hamburgers, and In the spring a wiener roast was held at Osawatomle Lake. After a summer of hard work they returned to school to find they had lost another two members from the class, but they had gained Wade Schultz. Ronald Shaffer was elected presldent;Floyd Bowman,vlce-presldent;Keith Platt,secretary; Warren Knight, treasurer; Willis Dean Hodgson and Dorothy Macoubrie, student council members. Mrs. Parks and Mr. Lemon were sponsors. A class party was held at the Garnett Lake where all enjoyed fried chicken with all the trimmings and the football game In which Mr. Pennytoaker s, our former coach, team was playing. The next big event was the senior play.After many hours of drill and practice and fun both at night and during school hours they presented, The Robe . Ronald Shaffer starred as Marcellas, and Gene Byerley as his faithful Greek slave, Demetrius. It was truly, a class play In which each one of the twenty one members participated. The production of The Robe Is said to have been colossal. The senior sneak trip to the Qzarks of Missouri and Arkansas was enjoyed Immensely. On the evening of May 16 was Baccalaureate Services, on May 18, Class Night, and May 21, Commencement with Dr.Nelson P. Horn, President of Baker University, giving the address to the Class. Lee Dean Austin gave the Valedictory, Ronald Shaffer, the Salutatorian, sang the farewell song. Our great week was ended; it was with sadness that we took our leave of our P. H. S., our teachers, and our classmates. The class showed many talents and displayed many of them during the year. September 1, 1952, twenty-eight cubs Joined as soph- omores. Dale Mahan was elected president; Evelyn Polley, vice- president; Otis Lile secretary-treasurer; Carl Frear and Wanda Troutman, student council members. They enjoyed two class parties during the year and con- tributed in many activities throughout the year. September 1953 twenty-eight juniors enrolled for more book leamin. Shirley Qiisenberry was elected president;Carol Hahnfeld vice-president;Phil Polley, secretary; Charles Light,treas- urer;Marjorie Wilcox and Beth Diehm,student council members. The class had a skating party for their party in the fall. They gave their play State Fair, which proved to be successful. The Junior and Senior Banquet, was beautiful and effec- tive with the theme Indians. They are looking forward to their senior year, with a sneak trip, a play, and their diplomas. Throughout the year they took an active part In school activities, September 1953, twenty-two sophomores enrolled for more •learnin . The following officers were elected: Keith Sims, president; Elwln Tyson, secretary-treasurer; Howard Wilson, vice-president; Norma Kay Hodgson and Raymond Dunlop, stu- dent council members. The class sponsors were Miss Dennis and Mr. Wilson. During the year the class lost four members and gained two. Leaving twenty members in the class. The class enjoyed a Halloween party in the fall and a hayrack ride and wienar roast In the spring. Next year all will be ready for a full year with class rings.
