Black, D. Black BAND During the summer vacation of 1954, Mr. Tritle organized our present high school band. Although many of its members had had no previous musical experience, they have made rapid progress in performing such numbers as Stars and Stripes Foreverf, Easy Steps March, and patriotic songs. W'e are proud of this new organization and hope the band becomes one of our favorite and necessary school activities. Violet Mae Lytle represented Parker Area Joint Schools in County Band, which was held in Freeport, Pennsylvania. The Band participated in the Christmas program, in assemblies, in P.T.A. meetings, and in other com- munity activities. -43-

Singing in a group is an experience of co-operation with others. Chorus helps to develop talent and is both an 'educational and entertaining activity. Some of the favorite selections this year have been: 'LT'was the Night Before Christmas by Ken Darby, Childs: Jesusu by Joseph Clockey and Hazel Jean Kirk, Christ- mas Party by Harold Spina, and several Fred Waring arrangements for mixed chorus. A few of the programs that the mixed chorus presented were: The Christmas Concert, which received much favorable comment from the students and the public, featuring Betty Jane Ramsey, Mary Francisco, Kay Jordan, Mary Ellen Caldwell, Duane Tremba, Steve Curry, Gayle Elliott, and Richard Marnie in solo numbers, the Spring operetta, which is a new type of musical program for Parker High School, and singing for special assembly programs. ..44...
